He could have fought Sergio years ago in his prime, when Sergio was calling him out. Instead Cotto waited until Sergio looked broken down and might be far enough gone to beat. Yeah, it's still an admirable risk but it's clearly a calculated one where Cotto has nothing to lose.
They're both pretty broken down which is why I dont mind this fight. I dont wanna see either of them getting beat up by a fresh Canelo or GGG. Cotto and Sergio are shop worn. Folks wanna beat them now for the name.

That may have been somewhat true in 2009.

Sergio has been a full blown middleweight for years now. He's not huge at the weight, but it's his comfort zone now. Sergio is not a 154lb fighter.

Couldn't agree more. It would be awful.

ok , seriously , he can make 154, he can make both divisions. For your sake i will agree sort of, but you can't tell me he can't make 154. Canelo is bigger than him, I am talking about Body types.

so what does that make floyd look? it's even absurd for floyd fighting at a CW when is the champ of that weightclass already. for manny that was his first venture into that weight class.

and oscar chose to fight manny at 147, who had only 1 fight at LW before being pulled up again another weight class to fight oscar.

I seriously think people are over exaggerating martinez's decline, I still firmly believe he will knock cotto out ( no disrespect to him). People need to respect what fighters like Sergio have done, you can't rule him out just because of his previous fight. As they say, champions pull it off when it matters the most
