Super__ your post pretty much sums it up. no cha, mpion with a abrain is gonna entertain every person who says " I can BEAT YOU" of course people are gonna say that to gete a payday shot at the champ. Eubank said in a quote that has been posted numerous time on this forum that he probably had nothing for roy. that he was too fast and skilled. Mind you I like Eubank. AS for people calling the toney fight a fluke, no one cares anout JT having to starve to make the weight. that is part of the business. If you can't make it don't fight.
who was there for Roy to fight

Eubank said in 1996 that he's stronger and wiser than ever, and that if he got his jab working it would take Jones' reflexes out of the equation. He really wanted to test his skills against Jones. He also thought that no light-heavy would handle his heavier punches at the heavier weight (without having to starve himself to make 168) if he was to "navigate in and out of punching range well enough against the naturally taller guys and land with frequency", he lost 25 pounds in under a week for Calzaghe and did no sparring for the fight (just bouncing up and down in a sauna) but even so weakened had Calzaghe wobbled a few times and had Calzaghe almost out on his feet in the dying seconds. He rocked Carl Thompson more than he'd ever been rocked, about five times in the first seven or eight rounds, actually had Thompson out on his feet a number of times but obviously couldn't bring himself to finish him (due to thoughts/flashbacks of Watson), and Thompson was a big cruiserweight so naturally smaller men (light-heavies) wouldn't of absorbed those kind of shots.Last edited by JuicyJuice; 02-23-2006, 02:05 PM.Comment

Eubank's plan was to go to Stateside after the Middle East plan failed, Bob Arum offered him a five-fight deal with the option of a five-fight extension if Eubank was successful - Eubank was going to be campaigning at 175 and wanted to start from the bottom and work his way up slowly to get into the #1 contender slot so that Jones would be forced to fight him (kind of like starting from scratch). But then he got those instant opportunities to win world titles again (against Calzaghe and Thompson), offered big money from Frank Warren, and took that quick easy option instead because he knew that if he won a world title again he would be giving Jones something to come to England and fight for.. unfortunately though, that didn't work out and Eubank called it a day due to eye problems.Last edited by JuicyJuice; 02-24-2006, 11:36 AM.Comment

Hey do u guys remember when RJJ promised that he would only fight til he wos 30, & 1999 was gonna be his last yr ? im an RJJ fan, but i think its disgraceful how he found a comfort zone & continued fighting for five yrs against trash opponents before Tarver knocked some sense into the situation. i have to say, RJJ is abit of a hypocrit- one min he says he gonne retire at 30, next min hes fighting bums every few months for yrs. one min he tells kids to stay away from drugs, next min he makes rap songs advising to smoke drugs. i loved watching him against Pazienza, Griffin, virgil Hill bodyshot et al, but i got fed up with him post 2000.
still an RJJ fan tho
Also, DM never left Germany, and never wanted to leave Germany. When he say Roy KO hill with one shot (and DM struggled mightily with Hill) DM didn't want to come to the U.S., and why would he. There is no reason to suspect DM would ever have left Germany and there is certainly reason to expect Roy to have fought DM IN Germany.Comment

Hopkins turned down $6 million from Roy. Hardly can blame Roy when Hops turns that down from a bigger champion.
And yes, G-man was BRAIN DAMAGED. What do yall not understand about that? Before that, him and Roy verbally agreed to fight.
Collins no one cared about as he came up short in his own big fights. Eubank was old and tired by the time he wanted to fight Roy, wanted to make a paycheck off of Roy in the late 90's. When Roy wanted to fight Eubank in the early 90's, Eubank said no.
And Benn...Jesus. Roy easily KO'd a guy who Benn lost to after G-man. Clearly, after G-man Benn was never the same and would not have faired well vs Roy.Comment

I am not using a proper chose of words when I sya he had nothing for RJJ. Actually thos ea re my words coming out. But on this forum in a Q and A with Eubanks he stated why he never fought roy and that he probably would not have been able to beat him becaseu he was too fast and skilled. Look at the thread on the bottom of this page. You will see it.Comment
