G-man- brain damaged by Benn b4 Roy could fight him
Jackson- this is a joke, Jackson and Roy's paths should never have crossed based on where they were in their respective careers. At the time Roy was good at 168, Jackson might as well have been retired.
    Parks- no one cares
Nunn- don't recall there being a demand for this fight
Calzaghe? Jesus Christ, get real...the man never wanted out of the UK...is facing a challenge finally after 40 fights, and guess what? it's in the UK
Collins- subpar brawler who lost to McCallum, if he wanted to fight Roy, all he had to do was become a mandatory
Liles- Liles never made much of a name for himself in the pros, maybe that is why Roy and him did not hook up
Tiozzo? ****ing get outta here with that bull****.
DM? Again, you're joking. DM never wanted to leave Germany if his ***** depended on it.
Jirov? Jirov was a cruiserweight and Roy had no obligation to fight him. Jirov went on to lose to Toney and Roy fought a HEAVYWEIGHT champ instead of Jirov...can't fault him for that.
    Unbelievable..

Eubank only had 1 fight in 96, and that was in cairo egypt, besides what would a win over a eubank at that level prove? nothing, if roy jones foguht and beat eubank in 96 all people would say is that he was old and past prime, making it a worthless fight

i think RJJ should of fought michael Nunn becos Nunn was his no.1 contender at both 168 & 175, & Nunn was the only guy other than RJJ to of handled JT with ease,

Hey do u guys remember when RJJ promised that he would only fight til he wos 30, & 1999 was gonna be his last yr ? im an RJJ fan, but i think its disgraceful how he found a comfort zone & continued fighting for five yrs against trash opponents before Tarver knocked some sense into the situation. i have to say, RJJ is abit of a hypocrit- one min he says he gonne retire at 30, next min hes fighting bums every few months for yrs. one min he tells kids to stay away from drugs, next min he makes rap songs advising to smoke drugs. i loved watching him against Pazienza, Griffin, virgil Hill bodyshot et al, but i got fed up with him post 2000.
            still an RJJ fan tho

at a press conference in 1996 RJJ was asked about Eubank & said
"Chris gets nothing from me, when i was coming up trying to make a name for myself he wouldnt give me a shot, Oh but now hes at the end of his career he thinks he can make some money off Roy?? i dont think so"

I like Roy, and he was a great fighter. But not fighting Michalczewski will always haunt him with boxing historians and writers who know the game. To be undisputed at LHW, which he never truly was, then he needed to beat DM. The belts that Roy won at 175 were paper belts, wrongfully stripped from DM. Now, I know that Roy said he would fight him once, if HBO would come up with the money, but that they didn't come up with enough. And I also know that DM flew over here and was ringside at one of Roy's early LHW bouts that I watched (it might have even been the Hill bout, I forget). Judging from those two things, I think the fight could have been made if Roy had wanted it, which a true champion would have.

The only other one is Jirov. I know he was offered much more money to fight Jirov than Woods, and opted to go with Woods, rather than face the undisputed cruiser champ. Can't blame him too much for this one, although we later saw that he had no problem being a solid 200 lbs for Ruiz. So I think that would have been a great match, and Roy would have won. But to Roy, even with the extra money, it wasn't worth the risk. Can't really criticize him for that, though.

Eubank said it wouldn't be a problem getting enough cash for James Toney and Roy Jones to go over there, he had a deal with an Iranian businessman but first Eubank had to build his rep over there and get interest in boxing. Eubank promoted his own fights in the Middle East but it didn't work out, he was even seen putting his own posters up. It was a nice plan, he wanted to make a big name for himself in the Middle East and bring boxing over there and make it big.. but it just didn't work out. Eubank went over there after Mike Tyson introduced Eubank to Islam when he was visiting Tyson in jail.

(Tyson and Eubank repeatedly stole from a 93-year-old wheelchair-bound woman when they were both 16, but ended up paying everything back just before she died).

I remember what Benn said at a press conference in 1995..

"Roy Jones can beat the crap out of my head all he likes, but I'm not letting Mike McCallum snatch my body!" - Nigel Benn
