Having that name is a mixed bag. He obviously got way too much undeserved attention to begin with, but now even if he is legit he has to go the extra mile to be more than "that guy's kid".
IMO he's legit but nothing exceptional. I am picking GGG.
Chavez Jr. is nowhere near "very good". I'd say he's a decent fighter when he comes in shape. Slightly above average. Nothing more.
He beat a fringe middleweight contender at 168 in his last fight. Sky's the limit. He is generally 15-20 lbs heavier than his opponents and rely on his chin. His defense is terrible, and he has average power.
I don't think he's that good. A good amount of credit for his success can be attributed to his size advantage. Put him in the ring with light heavyweights or cruiserweights, where he belongs, and no one would give a damn about him.
I don't know. All he has proven so far is that he can beat fringe contenders (Zbik, Rubio, Lee, Vera) in close, workimanlike fashion.
He has some good attributes like chin and physical strength, but his speed is average at best and for all his size, his power is not much to write home about. But the biggest problem is his nonexistent defense.
Also, let's not forget that he has yet to fight a full fledged SMW. We don't know how well he fares against someone his own size.
