not a lot of fighter can do that though, like mentioned you need speed, footwork and headmovement to get inside. but also a short stocky build to get under his shots and a pitbull attitude to make it rough on him once there.

devon is still one of the better fighters at 147, better than porter too imo. but again, styles make fights.
Yeah styles make fights and when Devon came up against a style that didn't suit him, he lost again. He hadn't "improved", he just fought bums like Purdy that made him look better.

Same thing will happen to Maidana when he fights something with speed and movement.

When he wasn't being like Usain Bolt, Khan spent a large portion of their fight covered up while Maidana came in with self smothered hooks and uppercuts..

That strong authoritative jab from the Karass fight would have softened khan's guard and distanced Maidana correctly for maximum leverage with his power punches when Khan was hanging on the ropes covered up.

Maidana has changed from being a slow-footed, hard hitting brawler - into an Argentinian Oscar De La Hoya since Khan fought him.

man, i thought maidana would have won an immediate rematch, let alone a rematch three years later as a strong welterweight against a faded khan.

Soto Karass was in the best shape of his life for that fight. Just look at how many punches he was throwing. He trained in Big Bear, CA. In an interview before the fight he vehemently said he was in the best shape of his life.

Take that for what it's worth. Personally I am very impressed by Chino Maidana's performance. He stopped a considerably bigger man -- something Canelo Alvarez has never done. And that was Floyd Mayweather's previous opponent. Furthermore, has Mayweather ever stopped an opponent that was significantly bigger? No.
