If you look at it objectively does his resume and quality of opposition merit it? Or is this just a sign of HBO being desperate and trying to push GGG faster?
Absolutely not. I love GGG, but he has beaten no one, literally. I have a problem with him in the top 10. I don't have him in mine, and he's one of my favorite active fighters, as you can see in my sig list.

He's not an elite fighter anymore, far from it, you guys put weight to much stock in a title and name value rather than looking at their quality as a fighter.
Martinez would be a very good win. People overplay how "washed up" he was against Murray. He simply got outboxed by a guy with a great gameplan - one which has been used with some success against a supposedly "prime" Martinez.

I expect Sergio to look fantastic against Cotto and he could potentially look great against Golovkin. Don't think he deserves to be written off just yet.

Having injuries in your knees at this age and especially for a mover like Sergio isn't good. Physically he looked pretty terrible against mediocre Murray, much slower and no snap in his punches. He will be 40 by the time he can fight Golovkin.

He had no snap in his punches because he could hardly land any. I don't particularly rate Murray either but he came with a solid gameplan. The high guard threw Sergio off and his rhythm became predictable. Martinez didn't look good against Macklin or Barker either and they adopted similar strategies. This was before his knee surgery.

Golovkin will not come in with a defensive strategy. He'll walk onto shots. Just depends if Sergio can keep him at a distance and not get caught with something big.

                  Nah, they won't.

I think Jim's credibility is taking a hit from this though, he is acting more like a shill thank like an objective analyst in my opinion.
He is a shill. It's his job.

I think he has a record for the most title defenses without fighting a top ten contender so no, not yet in the top ten.
