If you look at it objectively does his resume and quality of opposition merit it? Or is this just a sign of HBO being desperate and trying to push GGG faster?
His resume would say no but his talent is a h*ll yeah. P4P lists are so subjective but I have him in the top 10 based on how he would do in certain matchups.

A lot of people look good against tomato cans though. Look at Wilder or Gary Russell.

That alone isn't enough to qualify them as being top p4p'ers.

He shouldn't even be in the Top 10, and I'm a fan.......

He definitely isn't p4p top 5, or even top 10. He passes the eye test, but absolutely lacks the resume to be top 10. He's gotta do better than the likes of Ishida, Rosado, Stevens, and Adama. Macklin was certainly a good win, but not enough. To be top 10 p4p requires wins over some of the best fighters in the world, not fringe contender and one world class contender. I think Golovkin probably has the talent to be a top 10 p4p fighter, but right now he is unproven.

I really enjoy what he brings to the ring but he's not even Top 10.

No. Resume is all that needs to be said. And I like Golovkin. I also like HBO's boxing coverage for its entertainment value. Lampley a G. But I do take everything he/HBO says with a grain of salt, just like I do with Showtime and GB/The Ring.

They're in a business and pushing their fighters means more dollars.

Right now I'm with Kev. GGG is just inside the top 20 right now til further notice. NOW if he steps up the comp, and lets say...takes out Sergio and another high level fighter in the near future then he can sky rocket into the top 10. Easy. Hell maybe into the top 5. He just has to prove that he's the real deal.

Lampley is the minister of propaganda at HBO. He's a good boy.
