A little more than a year later he won the world championship and began his lengthy run of title defenses. Yeah, he was very average.

The USBA champions were good back then. I never said he wasn't above average overall. He didn't really look particularly good until '97.

And what exactly had Roy Jones done up to 1993?

Why doesn't it count for Jones?

I like Eubank. He seems like a nice guy, but I don't see him beating a Prime Roy.

He had looked out of this world, clearly.

Don't kid yourself, Hopkins was a top middleweight and anyone in the top 2% at what they do is FAR from average. Unless you are in the top 2% of what you do for a living, that would make you and anyone else far below average at what you for a living....off the scale actually.

You didn't even use a quote as to who you were addressing. Hopkins was a top fighter then and just like Jones, went on to become ATG fighters.

Someone mentioned Hamed. Man, I loved that little guy. Every time he talked, I listened...I was mesmerized by his character. What power in that left. Halloween night, against Wayne McCullough I could have swore that Wayne had a chin made of Titanium......Wayne had one of the best chins in Boxing history and took those punches. To me, Hamed was everything Boxing needs and needed. And he gave a lot of things - houses, money, etc to people. Probably one of the most generous Boxers ever. Sad he didn't make one more final run back then but he was fun while it lasted. I was practically holding my breath for his return after the Barerra loss and though he returned, he retired quickly though I don't remember any announcement. One of my 15 favorite fighters of all time.
