Ward obviously saw something in Bute that he felt threatened by. There's little else to explain why else he would have no desire to fight a proven commercial draw, and a fighter who was universally considered to be the next best fighter in his weight class.

My boy kev will not be able to provide such link.

As it stands, its pretty muddled as to what went on. Ken Hershman is on record for saying that Bute was never invited. Not in the beginning and not after Taylor, Kessler and Dirrell dropped out. On the other hand showtimes own commentary crew said that Bute turned an invitation down.

What does it even matter? Bute rejected the Super Six so its ok that Ward rejected Bute when the fight was at its biggest? I don't understand the logic...

The logic is very simple. He did not deserve the winner of the Super 6. That's it, that's the logic.

Bute was scared to death to fight in the Super 6, then all of a sudden deserves the winner? Didn't want to go through Froch, Kessler, Abraham, Dirrell? Look he even got a Froch coming off a loss after the Super 6, thinking he can get him worn out, and still got destroyed.

So who "deserved" the winner exactly?

Not Lucian Bute, i'll tell you that much.

Dawson coming down from 175 was a mistake for him, but coming off a clear win over Hopkins, the right man got the fight. Not Bute coming off a win over a Johnson that was coming off a loss.

I guess you were impressed with Bute's own destruction of the Super 6? Jean Paul Mendy, Brian Magee, Jesse Brinkley, Edison Mirana, Librado Andrade, wooof, he was really piling up those wins. Give him the Ward fight, man deserves it!

Bute was the clear next fighter in line at 168 whether you were impressed with his resume or not. I wasn't but it was still the fight to be made.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but as well as Ward saying he was not interested in fighting Bute, I think Lucian wanted to fight Froch.

Let's see, what else? He's pretty miffed at Bute. Turns out Ward and Bute were negotiating a two-fight deal before Bute signed on to face Froch. The plan, according to Ward, was to co-headline a card in Oakland in May or June before squaring off in an anticipated showdown in the fall in Las Vegas.

"I was disappointed," Ward said. "Bute and his promoter were screaming and yelling that I was ducking them, then they go and make a two-fight deal with Froch where if he loses, he takes Froch back to Canada? I didn't understand that. I was never ducking him, I just wanted to build up the fight. I was coming off two years of grueling fights and I felt he needed to fight someone. But ducking him? Come on. He wants belts, I have three belts over here if he wants to fight for a belt."
