It's easy to say that now after what Froch did to him but Ward and Bute were considered the two top guys at the weight and it was one of the top 3 biggest fights to be made in boxing at the time.

Ward's excuses were tame at best.

Ward won the Super Six, and was injured. While he was injured, Bute and Froch agreed to fight. Bute got destroyed.

So no, it never could have happened, unless you wanted Ward to drop out of the Super Six for Bute.

Yeah Ward never used an injury as the reason. He simply didn't want the fight because Bute needed to "prove himself".

That's how sad boxing is now in days. P4P #2 chasing a bum like Jr instead of moving up to LHW and going after greatness. How bad ass would it be if Ward moved up, fought Koveluv, Super Man fights Pascal if he beats Bute and then Ward fights the winner???

He broke his hand during the Froch fight and that was the injury he was recovering from when Bute and Froch signed to fight.
