Bernard never wanted that Roy rematch. And he is smart for not taking it. When they finally had their rematch Hopkins was saying he knew he would be Roy because of one reason, that Roy didn’t have his legs anymore. The philly fans are just the most biased group of people when it comes to boxing.
Just watched Roy Jones vs Bernard Hopkins I Roy shut him out!!!

Are you forgetting Hopkins was a natural LHW? His pro debut was at LHW & he lost. Dropped down to MW, lived like a Shaolin monk & "ate like a model" according to James Toney so he wouldn't outgrow the division. Hopkins was naturally bigger than Roy who started his pro career at 154.Comment

Of course JAMES TONEY said Hopkins ate like a model, anything less than 7 Whoppers with cheese from Burger King and large fries was considered going on a diet to Toney.
Hopkins and Roy were both middleweights at the time. Also I think Bhops body frame is naturally leaner than Jones who went all the way up to heavyweight; I think Jones was always more muscular or able to carry more weight. But that meant nothing when they fought at 160 21 years ago!
Anyways, topic at hand - Jones won CLEARLY, but it wasn't a shut out nor did he dominate. It was a competitive fight with Hopkins finding success late, especially with the overhand right. Looking back, this fight was largely uneventful. Both men fought cautiously neither taking too many chances, but Jones did more to win more rounds. This was a big learning experience for both fighter as neither were in their primes yet.Last edited by ИATAS; 01-14-2014, 04:48 PM.Comment

Separately or not, he still said it. And as long as a fighter makes weight the day before it doesn't really matter. Bernard has had the size advantage by a lot more in a lot more fights.Comment

Hopkins was fresh out of prison when he made his pro debut in 1988. He then took two years off to work on his craft and got connected with a real trainer.

I didn't see the fight that way at all. Hopkins presented Roy with less problems than Marquez presented Floyd. After about round 5 Roy has no worry at all about hopkins and he starts backing Hopkins up and hopkins is reluctant to throw unless roy allowed himself to go to the ropes. Hop had absolutely nothing for Roy. Roy would of beaten him 10/10 times 10 rounds to 2Comment

Haha ok! Watch round 11 and see Hopkins going to work attacking and digging into the body, that continued in round 12. Round 10 Hopkins landed some nice over hand rights and Jones landing some of his own and edging out that round but it was very competitive. Marquez sure as hell didn't do any of that to Mayweather come on now.Comment
