He was referring to their middleweight fight.

I believe his exact words were something a long the lines of " I knew I'd beat Hopkins when we fought because I knew how big I was. I was a lightheavyweight, so ofcourse I had to move up. Hopkins is still a middleweight, he was a middleweight the night we fought, I was a lightheavyweight in the ring "
When responding to Lampley about hopkins reign at MW, and how he's been able to stay there so long while Roy moved up.

I'll link the fight and pinpoint the exact time. It's one of those revelations that always stayed in my mind. Roys an honest dude.

It was a pretty competitive fight although I didn't have Hopkins winning more than 3/4 rounds. Clearly Hopkins hadn't hit his peak but I think people don't realize that neither had Jones. They both learned a lot from their first bout and it's the reason why they have so much respect for each other. I still rate Jones higher than Hopkins. People tend to look at Hopkins' longevity yet overlook that Jones was virtually the best fighter in the world for a decade. At his best I'd be hard pressed to find a fighter I'd pick against him.

Pretty sure I had it 9-3 for Jones. A lot of people forget how good Jones was. It is sad to see him bumbling around and losing to guys he would have toyed with.

Don’t let B-Hop beating Tito and Oscar fool you into thinking he had a chance with a prime RJ. Also the Oscar fight was pretty competitive until he got stopped. Roy would have had both Oscar and Tito out of there the same night at middleweight.

Hopkins fans use the whole “too green” excuse so they can sleep at night.

Exactly, Roy got much better, bigger and stronger, while Hop got smarter but slower and weaker. The getting smarter thing for Hop would of made no difference as Roys speed and power trumps smarts. Hop did his absolute best that he could of done while Roy was escalating.

Roy also said he beat Hopkins with one hand so, don't pick and choose, include it all.

About as competitive as Floyd vs Marquez as it was never in doubt, and one guy was clearly superior but in both cases, all fighters had to be on there game, but none the less, while on there game it was guaranteed win unless someone got caught cold.

He said it seperately. In fact, if you watch the Ray Allen fight and listen, he never mentioned the 1 hand bit at all. He just credits himself for being too big for bernard.
