It is a keep busy fight to make good money, the guy will likely fight four times next year after having fought four times this year. How many champions fight four times a year nevermind in back to back years? That is what Golovkin will most likely be doing. You really think they are fighting Adama because that is who they most want to fight next?

    3. Golovkin hasn't fought any one and is in his first weight class. Do like Martinez did and move up to 168. Martinez moved up from 154 after getting tired of being ducked by the top guys for being unknown and having no names on his resume. Soon as he got to 160 he started getting better names on his resume and now he's getting the biggest he can get.

Martinez shouldn't just give GGG a gift like that, why should he, when he never got one? He had to wait till his mid 30s and move up to a 3rd weight class. I guarantee you if Golovkin moves up to 168-175 and starts roaring about, calling out Ward, Groves, Kovalev, Stevenson, Froch, Kessler, he'd get all of there attention immediately.
Kovalev and Stevenson are two weight classes above him, Martinez only moved up one weight class to get better fights and apparently (correctly of course) won't be moving up another class and Kovalev was apparently tentative enough in simply sparring Golovkin nevermind fighting him in a proper fight.

Froch might fight Golovkin but Golovkin is not top of his list at the moment, Kessler looks to be holding out for Froch III or will retire. Ward is not wanting Golovkin right now, he is wanting an easy big money fight with Chavez jr and was even using his commentary job in a self serving way to add credibility to such a fight.

Golovkin always seems to find opponents so people are willing to fight him and the top guys only fight like once or twice a year. It's easy to line up fights all year long against cabbies so that you have a built in excuse to say no one good wants to challenge you so I'm just staying busy.

When the top guys look for available opponents to fight in a big money fight, all they see is Golovkin already with a fight lined up against another dude no one knows. Then Golovkin's people complain when the top guys say he has never fought anyone and needs to build up a rep. They keep him occupied with non-threatening no-hopers that they can toss spare change at and make it seem like the top guys are afraid to face him. No top guy wants to fight for ditch-digger wages.
Im so happy we have that bet because unless marvilla ducks him which he probably will. GGG will rip the **** out Martinez. And I hope he brutally retires him for boxing with a thorough beating.

That's how I'm seeing this - kinda like a bonus GGG fight, it was never gonna be a big name without HBO to throw the $s at it - arguably it also fulfils a mando commitment for GGGs IBO belt.

Looks like Murray vs Fletcher, Makabu vs Kolodziej, Joyi vs Loreto for the undercard.

Makabu is a big KO puncher and Kolodziej is unbeaten, Fletcher is OK and a useful build up fight for Murray (the hope is of course that this leads into a GGG - Murray fight later in the year).

It's Makabu vs Cleverly! Unbelievable matchmaking from Frank Warren. Seems like a trainwreck, I'll catch it on stream if no hbo.

              Boxrec says Cleverly.

Ring schedule says different - http://******.craveonline.com/schedule/

Clev is scheduled to fight Ammann at the copperbox on feb 8th apparently.

I'm pretty damn sure Boxrec got this one wrong - Makabu would be suicidal for Clevs first fight at cruiser.

There's a slew of MW fighters who are on very much equal footing - in beating Macklin convincingly GGG has shown himself to be very much part of this mix.

The only guy who has shown his clear superiority over a number of the others is Martinez - and the Murray fight did more to illustrate that Maravilla's fading than that Murray is better than the other Aus/Euro MWs.

What Golovkin has to do is get at least two more of these guys in the ring next year - Sergio would obviously be the ideal, but right now Geale and Murray are looking the most promising. Even convincing wins over Geale and Murray (if Maravilla prefers to chase the $s) would be enough in my mind to put his MW dominance pretty much beyond question, though unless he can get Maravilla - even a faded version - in the ring, there'll be plenty of doubters.
They're more interested in the money that comes with it. HBO aren't backing Golovkin financially to the same extent, so it makes no sense to fight him.

Maybe but Mosley couldn't hang with Golovkin, there's video evidence of that.

I don't think Sturm's opponents make that much unless they're bring a belt. Barker got a ton cause he had one and Sturm didn't. GGG's people claim Murray was offered more than for Sergio or Sturm

I don't quite understand - are you saying that GGG doesn't get the good fights cos he stays too busy?

HBO dates and title fights are big news, they mean big exposure and big paydays - not everyone gets them - Golovkin was lucky to get three last year and you woulda thought opponents would be jumping at them. HBO hand out the possible dates - the promoter works within these parameters. If opponents aren't taking fights they should be jumping through hoops for, it ain't because Golovkin is 'too busy'.

Simple fact is taking a Golovkin fight is perceived as being a probable loss, and naturally guys would rather take on the IBF holder (whoever it is this month) which probably pays a similar amount but could lead to good future paydays rather than a defeat.

Unless you're actually suggesting that Golovkin is fighting 4 times a year as some kind of weird way of avoiding the big fights. Does that even sound sensible to you?

The reasons he hasn't got most of the guys in the ring are well understood - Maravilla - Injury, Kid C - Cold War, Murray - Visa/ Unready, Geale, Barker, Sturm - Prefer to fight over the IBF strap, Soliman - been banned/IBF, Rubio - chasing Maravilla. Pirog - Injured

Lee, Mora and Truax are the best left, and seriously, whilst I'd prefer any of them, are they so far above Adama?
