Some of Golovkin's victories & the reason so many people rank him so highly:
Lucian Bute ; Andre Dirrell ; Daniel Geale ; Matvey Korobov...

Golovkin's amateur record was 345-5, over a time period where there were a lot of extremely good fighters & they fought each other frequently - Golovkin was the guy who came out on top more than any other fighter of the time (although he never got past the incredibly tricky Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov to my knowledge).

While he hasn't yet managed to get any of the marquee names in the pro ranks into the ring yet, it doesn't seem from lack of trying - he chased Sturm for years when they were both promoted by the same people & Golovkin ended up splitting with them over their unwillingness to make the fight - and he has repeatedly stated his desire to fight anyone in the division.

He has however managed to get a pretty solid crop of fighters to face him and his performances against them shows everything you want to see when an up & coming supposedly elite fighter faces good competition, ie. genuinely dominant performances.

Everything in his career so far says Golovkin is the genuine article...

One thing that still puzzles me is how is Quillen viewed as a good fight for Golovkin but the Rosado win is meaningless.

When Rosado was laying hands all over Quillen the fight was on even terms compared to Golovkin who basically ran him out of the ring.

This 32 yrs.old needs to fight a legit 160 lber. in 2014. I think he's going to be expose once he step up to his level of competition. Even Lucian Bute fought much better oppositions before he was TKO'ed by Froch.

The five best fighters at 160 are Murray, Sturm, Geale, Quillin* and Martinez.

*This one is debatable since he hasn't fought another top MW, Macklin is arguably better

GGG doesn't have any big wins
he just has a couple good wins and a slew of decent ones
Macklin, Stevens, and Roasado are most notable for him so far
GGG is getting love because he stays busy and maintains his buzz
that and he's getting wins by KO
he's proven he's ready to step up and challenge for the real title
he better get his shot next yr, or at least a chance to unify belts

Love to see him fight those guys. I actually pick a healthy Martinez over Golovkin.

                  Its a matter of perception.

In your eyes Golovkin is perceived as a humble fighter who is fighting nobodies.
In our eyes Broner is an arrogant fighter who had also fought nobodies (this of course has changed as of now)

golovkin knocked bute out in the amateurs. if they didn't have amateur gloves and headgear bute would have been seriously hurt. it was a one punch knockout.

he also beat dirrell, despaigne, korobov, geale, lee, and many others. he even beat a guy named "mikael perez," from cuba, who very well could be mike perez before he started growing.

golvokin doesn't have the best professional resume in the world. you can only beat who gets in the ring with you. right now he's the second ranked middleweight in the world in spite of that.

geale dropped a belt to avoid him [a belt is significant for making money to a guy like geale.] barker's people turned down a fight. murray's people [hatton] turned down a fight.

anybody who doesn't think that he beats martinez doesn't know a damn thing about boxing. lou dibella certainly knows boxing, and is not an idiot.

top 5 p4p from lampley is probably too high, but a p4p list is inherently subjective. do you guys have any idea how much opinion goes into ranking the fifth best fighter in the world? often the first couple are pretty much set in stone, but going all the way down to 5? that becomes extremely subjective.

jim lampley's obviously got bias. he's paid by HBO. he used to root for the most handsome fighter with almost complete consistency. odd look. he's still been ringside at world championship boxing matches for longer than most of you have been alive.

This is a misconception because if it were true, he would be sitting on the shelf for long periods of time in between fights but ironically, he is more active than almost any other middleweight. He is fighting a guy that is ranked in the top 20 at MW in Adama who has lost every single time he has stepped up and just beat a guy with more losses than wins (17-24-1).

Golovkin always seems to find opponents so people are willing to fight him and the top guys only fight like once or twice a year. It's easy to line up fights all year long against cabbies so that you have a built in excuse to say no one good wants to challenge you so I'm just staying busy.

When the top guys look for available opponents to fight in a big money fight, all they see is Golovkin already with a fight lined up against another dude no one knows. Then Golovkin's people complain when the top guys say he has never fought anyone and needs to build up a rep. They keep him occupied with non-threatening no-hopers that they can toss spare change at and make it seem like the top guys are afraid to face him. No top guy wants to fight for ditch-digger wages.
