I think Roach fits him better than Garcia. If he ever gets a rematch with Swift, I have confidence he beats him. His eye won't swell like that twice in a row on swipe of a glove.
If Lucas Matthysse went with Robert Garcia?

I don't think he is good enough already. Sure, he could have beat Garcia. But he didn't. Big fucking difference. That's a fight he should have won, he had the tools to do it, but for one reason or another he came up short.
People keep talking about the eye injury like its a one off thing. That's crazy in my opinion, there's every chance something like that happens again with Danny's left hook.
Matthysse has the ability to put it on Garcia in a much bigger way if he was more varied and busier offensively. He spends way too long waiting and doing nothing in the pocket. Thinking too much when he should be throwing. He needs someone like Roach who can give him a couple of more set pieces to use when he's in striking range, rather than sitting there waiting for the opponent to expose himself first.Comment

Garcia is a good trainer but on top of that he know how and when to relay his emotions across to a fighter.
People say Mike Stafford is a good trainer but he couldent get his point across to Broner at all. So what good is Stafford as a trainer then? you know.
Lucas with Robert Garcia would have stopped Danny Garcia.Comment

how is that? those weren't freak accidents either, garcia was targeting that eye for half the fight with his power keeping matthysse at bay while picking his shots. it was no freak accident that danny's chin held up either, matthysse hit him with some amazing shots (remember the flying mouthpiece?) and danny never went into survival modeI think it would definitely help. Matthysse, IMHO, beats Garcia 4 out of 5 times. The first fight turned out to be that unusual one with all the freak accidents that happened (swollen eye, low blows, etc). I would put money on Matthysse with confidence if a rematch was to happen.
on topic: matthysse has underrated jab and excellent footwork which are the main things garcia teaches these brawlers. matthysse is fine with his current trainerComment

shoulda, coulda, woulda...fact is the fight wasn't close and matthysse started fast...he couldn't find any openings to hit danny flush which tells us more about danny's defense than it does about matthysse's already highly regarded offensive skillsI don't think he is good enough already. Sure, he could have beat Garcia. But he didn't. Big fucking difference. That's a fight he should have won, he had the tools to do it, but for one reason or another he came up short.

if u look at the peterson, olsegun and dallas fights matthysse does in fact throw combinations at close range and showed plenty of variation in his offense against the resilient peterson...just because he didn't show it against garcia that doesn't mean he doesn't have those skillsComment

Actually, I think Roach is the perfect match for a guy like Matthysse. Other than the language barrier, but Roach deals with that all the time.
No way does Garcia win "5 of 5 times". It's a fairly 50-50 fight, as we learned. One of them may have the edge, but I'm not sure who it is.
Matthysse is still a beast, but a few things need work. If he could fix those, he'd certainly have a real shot to win the rematch. He has a good shot anyway.Comment
