If Lucas Matthysse went with Robert Garcia?

    What do you reckon?

could his game improve? if he could do it with Maidana who seemed highly one dimensional at one stage where as Lucas seems slightly better grounded.

I think there wouldn't be massive differences made, however a noticeable difference nonetheless. He could improve his offensive arsenal at the least, and in his case that's not necessarily a bad thing, anything more would be a bonus.

Lets not forget Ariza's conditioning too!

There's a lot more to it than just putting a trainer with a fight and bam you have success.

Remember Garcia trains Rios and Rios is still Rios.

I think Garcia is just really really good and will beat Lucas 5 times out of 5.

I'm normally against changing trainers but I think it would be good for Matthysse. He's too gun shy at the moment which is crazy for someone with his chin and power. He doesn't need much, just a little bit more nous in the pocket. I don't think he'll do it, but I think it would be good for him. I actually Roach would be better for him than Garcia.

I think it would definitely help. Matthysse, IMHO, beats Garcia 4 out of 5 times. The first fight turned out to be that unusual one with all the freak accidents that happened (swollen eye, low blows, etc). I would put money on Matthysse with confidence if a rematch was to happen.

I don't know if there would/should be big differences in Lucas' style. Lucas is an aggressive pressure fighter and I don't think he could be half as effective if he became a boxer/puncher.

However, there is something that I caught while watching the second All Access episode and it's that García knows how to develop a good gameplan or, at least, he did so for Maidana. He mentioned that Broner takes the first 3 rounds or so to study the opponent and that they would take advantage of that. I scored the fight 115-110 Maidana and I scored the first four rounds 40-35 for Maidana. To my eyes, the fight was won in the first five rounds, meaning that García and Maidana did what they said they would do so the gameplan was successful. I could see Matthysse benefiting from this.

I understand what you mean, but lets face it Rios isn't the brightest spark in the sport and he never goes in with a game plan, he relies on power to make a difference in a fight and tbh his power is not that effective at all. Rios has an ability to withstand punches which isn't also smart.

I think Matthysse would follow a plan and listen to the advice given by Garcia rather than just go in there trying to finish the show from the word "Go".

                What!?

He's good enough already. He just ran into some bad luck, concerning his eye.

I have Matthysse winning in a rematch.

I don't see a rematch happening. Garcia cleaned out his division and should move up to 147 now.

Garcia beats him any day of the week, bad eye or not

If Matthysse moves up, trust me, that rematch can happen.

Sooner or later Danny's gonna lose, and a fight with Matthysse would make sense.
