As opposed to Duran and Hearns, who were at their best as middleweights?

Yep, what a great plan: almost losing sight in one eye, drug and alcohol abuse, one fight in five years and a straight jump up to a division two weight classes above his peak weight - genius!

I'm not saying Haglers best wins were over Duran (best at lightweight) or Hearns (who was probably more comfortable at 160 + up) you can't make 147 your entire career and physically mature at the same time!
      I'm talking about competitors who were middleweights;
      Ray Seales
      Bobby Watts
      Willie Monroe
      Mikie Colbert
      M. Hamsho
      V. Antuofermo
      Benie Brisco
......................who the hell did Bernard fight like these fellows. He was fighting guys who didn't want to make 47 anymore or took the money for 8 or 10 because they were 6 round fighters on their local cards!
Bernard has the defends record but against who and what? I was very active in working corners back then for a number of matchmakers and handled some of the guys that fought Bernard so I know what went on.
You can't compare backgrounds and experience between Hopkins and Hagler.
To many look at Marvin at the end of his career with Leonard who got lucky and the eye was healed pretty quickly and all boxers have
demons" so the excuses are weak!
I knew Ray since he was 14 years old and he trained at my gym to prep for a few fights he had early in his career. I know his people and I knew Dundee and they were very carefull with him and Hagler was NEVER in their plans, I assure you. Ray waited and it paid off but neither was at their best and in their primes Hagler would out foight Ray just like Duran did!
Go compare opponents between Hopkins Leonard and Hagler and tell me who had the tuffest road to the top? Hagler is a top ten middleweight, the others aren't to me. Ray.

No it was a rhetorical question and a valid point.

It's kind of got worse in a way, I don't really take notice of the obvious ones, it's the ones that pretend to be objectives and also co-sign the obvious ones.

Leonard beat more ranked contenders than Hagler did before they fought for a title, and did so in a much shorter period, I know that much.

Trinidad was a huge welterweight and always had been. You can't diminish that victory on the basis that he used to be a welterweight and then turn around and glorify Hagler's win over Hearns. Tommy never had any issue making 147 or 154 and he was clearly never the dominant force at 160 that he was in the lower weight classes.

And you'll agree that substance abuse and several years of inactivity will generally lead to an erosion of skills for any world class athlete, no? Or is Ray Leonard immune from this?

I listed some of Haglers opponents as he moved up and you think Leonard fought better competition?
List them by all means lets compare their skills and determination.
I didn't "glorify" anything, actually I discounted Duran and Hearns as great wins. Do you actually read my posts? Ray.

the prime hopkins that stopped glen johnson would bring the noise to hagler. it would be a ****ing war.

I don't think it would end in a knockout but Hagler would win comfortably.
