It makes sense, it was a good fight and it was close. Garcia and Matthysse are still the two best JWW's in the world. We could end up having a great trilogy. Who knows? I mean who else is Danny going to fight. Provodnikov, or Khabib, those aren't happening anytime soon. What are his options realistically. The Peterson Jean winner or Cano maybe. His options aren't good at 140 IMO. It's a rematch with Matthysse or move up to 147 and its no guarantee Garcia does well at 147.Comment

That's the thing with boxing; sometimes you don't get a second chance so you better make the best of the first one. Matthysse got the opportunity of a lifetime and failed to beat Garcia. It was a fair decision win for Matthysse, nothing else you can do about that. Garcia deserves full credit for beating a guy many people thought would be too much for him.
Rematch? No way. It was a boring fight the first time around. Had Matthysse done a better job of pressing the action and made it fun to watch, people would want to see it again.Comment

Answer this question. Who is more deserving of that title shot? No matter how you dice it lucas Matthysse is the 2nd best 140lber in the world. He beats Provodnikov, Rio, and Alvarado in the same night. If Garcia defends his titles against anyone else, it's a lesser fighter than Matthysse.
You act like he blew Matthysse out, it was a close fight and most fans would want to see it. Except the Garcia fans for some reason. I'm not afraid to see Matthysse right back in their with Garcia even if it mmeans another loss but Garcia fans seem to be afraid of this rematch. I wonder why.Comment

I read in an interview Garcia said he'd give Morales the rematch cause he was the first dude to really give Garcia a shot. I can't knock that, although I didn't want to see a rematch either. Seemed like a stand-up thing to do IMO.Comment

No one has answered it cos it's annoying as **** and not focusing on the real issue. Who the **** cares about belts? Lucas allowed the Lamont fight to happen at 141 because he didn't care for the belt, he just wanted the fight. Peterson is still champ. How does that fit in your CHAMPION and CHALLENGER narrative? It's not the issue so just shut the hell up about it and stop acting like you bamboozled everyone with an irrefutable statement.
Anyway, a small minority of us were saying pretty much what OP is saying right after the fight, but were shouted down by all the people who wanted to gloat about predicting Danny would win. In a way, it was justifiable cos the Lucas stans took the smack talk too far BEFORE the fight.
However, the rest of us saw the fight for what it was - a super-close fight where a lot of things conspired against Lucas but it would be hard to begrudge Danny the win, as he fought a really smart fight (and yes, the low blows and clinching were smart - and deliberate).
I would love a re-match but know it isn't going to happen. What I find strange is that ******s like Four Corners are just so grateful that Danny squeaked a win on a bogus knockdown but somehow seem to hate the idea of a rematch between two world class fighters that could potentially be awesome. Do you hate seeing good fights, Four Corners? Or do you form part of that weird fanbase who seem to hate Lucas, GGG, Kovalev yet love Broner?
Funnily enough, I became an even bigger Lucas fan after that fight, to fight through that busted eye and come so close against a fighter at the top of his game like Danny was was borderline epic.
Again, I cant ever see it happening. But I would truly love it if it did. You know why? Cos I love seeing awesome match-ups and don't cling to a razer-thin victory cos I happen to like one fighter and dislike the other.
FOUR CORNER, YOU ****ING SUCK. I CAN'T BELIEVE I TOOK YOU OFF IGNORE.Last edited by Porter's Dad; 12-02-2013, 02:25 PM.Comment
