The issue is Sergio has 3 alternatives. And his promoter is ranking them in terms of how much money they would make his client. Do this for me. Rank Canelo, Cotto and GGG from 1 to 3 in terms of which fight would make Sergio the most money.
sergio only made 1.5 against chavez. he made 1 million to fight barker. sergio is the b-side against cotto. against golovking he would rake in the lions share. we don't know the numbers so it's pretty dumb to speculate. it all depends on how much money hbo puts up for golovking-martinez. dibella should at least see how much each fight makes but he won't because he doesn't want the numbers to say golovking. easy to way to make a decision. ignore all other options.

Luckily my pops is 60 and has watched boxing since the 50s, with his word and what I have read from the History Section regulars, I put two and two together and see boxing is still the same. There was a thread here once showing a 1960s article about how Boxing is dead. I bet you think 1960s was full of golden fights and fighters itching to face the low pay, low reward fighters.
A lot has changed. For one there are 4 world championship belts. Henry Armstrong couldn't pull a Miguel Cotto and hop/skip/jump weight divisions and wipe out the weakest belt holder. And second its a fact that boxing's popularity has declined heavily. Look at the number of boxing gyms 25-30 years ago compared to now. Most of the boxing gyms down here have turned into full service fitness centers. Boxing used to be on network television where now its on premium cable or PPV.

I understand fighters always fight for money. That's why its called professional prize fighting. But the stuff I mentioned above has changed the landscape significantly. Sergio would have the only belt in the division for one and would be forced to defend it.

And you're taking what they said out of context and or putting words in their mouth.
GGG is nothing but a 8 loss amateur loss coward liar.
You being serious on knocking him for 8 amateur losses?

            Better numbers where?

Martinez at least has 500k PPV's sold under his belt. What does Golovkin have?

It doesn't even matter what GG brings. If he just gets a couple of good top 3 wins, I can see how he'd have a case at calling old proven dudes out. But he is unproven.

Golovkin doesn't have to be a big PPV draw, but he and his fans can't expect for Martinez to fight him over Cotto or Canelo. And if those fights fail, why should Martinez fight GG over Rubio and leave his belt for $1.5million? Get stripped for $4-5mill, or get stripped for $1.5mill, or keep your title and fight Rubio, get $1-1.2mill, fight winner of Canelo-Cotto with your title as a bargaining tool.

I find it hard to believe that he would make more money fighting Golovkin than fighting Canelo or Cotto. Even if I agree with that unlikely theory GGG is a harder fight.

Like I said, I don't like it. But I'm not blinding myself to the facts of what is going on and how this sport operates either.

Or is it all Mayweather pulling it in and Canelo's numbers when he does PPV will be crap.
Because so far he fought the biggest PPV star and if he does fight against Cotto he'll go against the third biggest... but somehow all those numbers will be attributed to him
Canelo was undeniably a factor in the 2.2million, as a so-called fl-mo, even i'll admit that. Floyd didn't magically go from fighting three Mexicans for 1.1 mill, 1.25mill and 850k PPVs respectively all the way up to 2.2mill because his drawing power just happened to increase that much on his own. Canelo was a huge factor, and that is just undeniable. And he would also be a huge factor in the excellent numbers a PPV with Cotto would pull in. 400-600k would be what I expect and these are great numbers and would be because it took both of their star powers and both the Mexican and PR fanbase.
