    slicksters are tricky

    cuties are liars.

boxers generally let you know the deal and beat you regardless.

that's how i think of it.
of course, you can literally do all three in the same round if you're well rounded.

You don't think the way Martinez set's up his counter punches is slick? I never thought of Morales as slick... I've always thought of his as very tough pressure fighter, who would run into flak to land 2 or 3 of his own. When I think of slick offensive fighters the first name that pops into my head is of Roy Jones.

TS, I disagree. Sergio is very slick. 1st off he wasnt near the same talent he is now when he fought Margarito. 2nd, you talked about him getting hit against these guys but these guys are the best fighters in the world. Unless you are a Mayweather or Ward then you are going to get hit clean alot if you are fighting a top guy.

3rd, even though he's slick, he's still a very active offensive fighter which is going to put him in harms way more then a guy who is just defense 70% of the time. 4th and most of all, even slick guys get hit. Paulie and anyone else just about that you name still get hit a good amount. Everyone isnt going to be near perfect liike Floyd. Most of the time you are still going to get hit, no matter how slick you are. Its just suppose to be harder to get to you

no, not under the general understanding of what "slick" means in boxing. he's just fast with his upperbody and hands. feet too. you've got to distinguish between the two, because they aren't the same.

athletic and slick aren't always the same.

It's not only his speed though, at his best his timing is excellent. I don't think "ring generalship" (as Lederman would call it) and slickness are the same thing although Sergio certainly has a good ring IQ too.

I don't think your (subjective) understanding of "slickness" is the general consensus given that you think Morales is "slicker" than Martinez.

timing doesn't make you slick, dude.

and never once did i mention erik morales, but he is much more slick than martinez, especially later in his career.

just look at martinez after his speed left him. athletic does not mean slick.

Morales was one of the best at making his opponents take the bait. Thing is, I could name fighters who can occasionally pull off slick moves but I wouldn't classify them as slick if it isn't consistent enough.

and reading the posts, erik morales was NOT a pressure fighter. that is absurd. he had an amazing reach and height at FW. he could brawl, he could box, he could punch.

When it comes to feinting a lone, just being able to make your opponent take the bait, Morales is up there with the best of them. What moves does Martinez pull off in the ring that can be classified as slick? I'm a fan of his, defended him as much as anybody on this site and I honestly don't see it.
