To be honest, Mayweather just edges Martinez at 160lb. The fight would start off compelling but it would quickly turn boring after the 3rd round when it becomes clear that Martinez can't land anything and Mayweather (rightly or wrongly) will get no credit for beating a faded Martinez.

Once Mayweather dispatches Martinez he would be expected to clean up the division. However when he drops back down to 147, people will scream DUCKER! Lets be clear, Mayweather gets knocked clean out by GGG at 160lb.

Moving to middleweight is really a no win situation for Mayweather. I'm happy watching Mayweather clean out the WW division till he retires.
Great post! The bold part is spot on. These guys are very predictable. If/once Floyd beat Sergio, they'd definitely be calling him to fight GGG.

I can see it now, "But, but, but, Mayweather has a title at 160lbs, he's big enough to fight GGG."

This article is a complete joke.
GGG & Martinez are HBO fighters who should never be mentioned against Floyd unless we know their contracts are about to be up. Also, Floyd has never been 160.

Simply put it's easy to predict Floyd's next opponent:
Whoever has the most impressive win & most hype in the 147-154 range who isn't on HBO will face Floyd. Garcia right now is #1. We'll have to wait and see how the fights later this year play out.

Khan barely left Roach a year ago, and has only fought once since.. He dominated and stopped Carlos Molina.. Did I miss another fight of his? He looked great, and his defense and footwork much improved.

I'm saying right now I'd prefer to see Floyd fight Golovkin at 154 than Martinez at pretty much any weight. I would like to see Martinez get a payday though. It's a shame that it looks like his age and the injuries have slowed him down. We'll know for sure in his next fight. It could just be he didn't allow himself to properly heal after the Chavez fight.

Again, I would point out Canelo weighed more against Trout on fight night than Golovkin did against Macklin. Canelo also has a longer reach than Golovkin (as does Floyd).

Nor do they have the kind of fanatic fanbase that would buy the fight anyway despite the lack of competition.

Either he fights at 160 on PPV or nobody is buying. I've seen plenty of his own fans say the same thing. Or he can just fight on regular CBS against any of these no-hopers and probably pull a decent rating.

It was ****** of Showtime to sign such a ridiculous deal with Mayweather in the first place knowing that they only had one fight (Alvarez) that was a guaranteed sell. Nobody wants to see Mayweather vs. Khan, Alexander, Bradley, or Ortiz.
I completely disagree with this statement. Boxing fans overreact to everything. And they're nwow overreacting to Floyd's performance against Canelo. Yes, it was good. But it didn't totally wipe out any interest in seeing Floyd fight anyone south of thhe middleweight division. Truth is, the average casual fan couldn't even tell you the difference between a welterweight and a middleweight. Hell, I've seen plenty of the ones complaining about the Floyd-Canelo fight on FB because they thought Canelo was gonna be "bigger" and they couldn't even see the size difference between the two. Its that level of uneducated fans that buy Floyd's shows. Welterweight is currently the best division in boxing. Casual fans would pay to see Floyd-Garcia after Danny's performance against Matthysse. The build-up to that fight would be crazy with Angel. Fans would buy a Floyd-Broner fight at a ridiculously high rate. If Floyd showed any interest in promoting a unification fight with the Alexander-Khan winner, that would do a million+ buys. If GBP and Top Rank can get their **** together, Floyd-Pac is probably still the biggest fight out there. And if Bradley beats JMM, a fight with he and Floyd would sell. And then you have undefeated up-n-comers like Thurman and Kell Brook that will likely be sellable by 2015 if they keep winning. Would it be cool to see Floyd test himself against middleweights? Absolutely. But honestly, he's probably too small to be successful and isn't obligated to do it just to satisfy his fanatical buyers who simply wanna see him lose. Floyd will be just fine without the middleweight division. Finacially and in terms of his legacy.

Dammit I knew I missed one! Despite Khan's inferior defense, I really think he still remains a marketable name provided he wins his next bout. All that being said, I'm really hoping for Mayweather Bradley showdown. I really think that's the best available matchup for Floyd at the moment.. Only problem is Bradley's with TR

The only fights financially big for Floyd right now is still: Manny Pacquiao followed by Sergio, Hopkins (pipe dream fight), then an unnecessary rematch w. Marquez or Cotto. Those are the only fights that would sell big like Canelo fight. Maybe an Amir Khan fight in England would have been had he not look like a damn panzy getting knocked down here n there.
No one please say GGG, Bradley, Matthyse, Garcia. you have to be quite delusional to realize these guys dont have big fanbases

GGG is damn near 6' tall where Canelo was at least an inch shorter than Floyd. Just like with DLH, Floyd would have to put himself in harm's way to score against GGG where he could could box Canelo from a safe distance has he chose to. Bad comparison.

Appears you heard about Diaz dropping him...

He beat Molina easily mostly because he was bigger and Molina is a nobody. Watch the fight carefully and you see Molina connecting with left hooks inside Khan's combinations--the same scenario he got KOed with against vs Danny.

unfortunately, Diaz confirmed this in Khan's next fight. maybe the third fight together will change things but at this point i think Khan is who he is
