    [QUOTE=BafanaBafana;13713704]

You can't rule a division fighting bums, and that's what Hopkins was doing before 2001 (minus the schooling he got from Roy).
Bums? Most everyone Hopkins fought was ranked in the top ten when he fought them.

When you say he ruled you're insinuating he's the lineal champ (like Sergio is right now), but he wasn't such until 2001. So like I said, EXPOSED.
It's not my fault you're an idiot for assuming I meant lineal. Like I said though he was dominating the division and the belts were kept away from him due to politics. He beat, and dominated, all of the top guys. The WBC was held by Keith Holmes, who Don King kept away from Hopkins until finally in 2001. The WBA was held by Joppy, who surprise surprise Don King kept away from Hopkins. That's the only reason he didn't unify earlier, two guys who Hopkins eventually easily beat.

    Excuses...
So 40 years of age is prime? Interesting, let's see how Sergio looks in 2016.

Just to be fair, and I think GGG would beat Sergio, he can't officially lose lineage until he loses it in the ring or retires.

What else would you call it if not an excuse? Hopkins primed late, different fighters develop differently. You think Morales is closer to his prime than Marquez because he's 5 years younger? Marquez had his best win at 39 and Hopkins has arguably had his best wins north of the the middleweight division when he was past the age of 40. At 34 Morales was not even a fifth of his former self.

And for the record I never said Hopkins was in his prime at 40, you're just putting words in my mouth. What's true though is that he wasn't shot at age 40.

Ok I will break this down for all the Martinez **** suckers out there. First of all, if floyd was to lose to canelo. Ward would automatically get the spot because even though he has been inactive for a year he has still Molly whopped every single opponent. And p4p has done far more than Sergio.

Now let us look at sergio's last fight, he pretty much lost that fight and I wants him to win in that fight. He lost to that fight I even had to resist not to give Murray the knockdown that didn't count. He got a hometown decision and nothing else. That doesn't make you a p4p king.

Then you have the mw division Sergio is clearly ducking ggg. Dibellas excuses won't work. And if they were ever to fight ggg rips his soul out.

Martinez lost to Murray, so no way he could be #1

Well I feel he is easily 2-3...now some people might might Marquez, Pacquiao and etc in that grouping.

But to me it's clear he's on his way. Dude is the LINEAL, Undisputed MW champ of the world, the most dominant MW champ since Roy Jones Jr.
Has not taking any EASY fights, "maybe not the most popular"
And he is more active than some of the YOUNGER guys...IE Gamboa, Russell and Andre Ward all while being much older.

So is response to the other thread regarding "If May losses who is P4P number 1" it's clear It's Marvilla Martinez.
              1. Serg just got beat down by martin murray in his last fight and got a hometown gift decision,,, Hard to have him #1, honestly after that fight, i dropped serg from #3 p4p to the honorable mention on my list

              2. He is getting old and breaking down,, He is injury prone

              3. Ok, if floyd loses, how does serg leapfrog ward and jmm or even rigo,, I think those guys are alittle more deserving,,

              4. Serg would have to return next year and beat GGG and murray rematch or quillen to be pushed the top of the list, not sure any of those fights will happen,,

              5. To Serg's credit, he has been a good champ and had a nice run,, I have enjoyed watching him fight,,

              6. The TS is a total idiot for thinking he had the best reign since roy jones,, Hopkins is the best champ since hagler, and serg has been the best champ since hopkins,, but roy jones had a horrible MW run,,, he didnt have any notable defenses at that weight,,

This goes out to people who think Hopkins was not a great, and was "exposed"

Hopkins had all 4 belts,, that is every belt WBO, WBC, IBF, WBA
He beat all champs to get these belts,,
From 95-2005 he was the best MW in the world and beatdown anyone who thought they were the best,,,
Had all his best wins past his prime,,,,
Yes hopkins great skills helped him later in his career, but physically he was not as dominant as he was in the 90's..

Hopkins is the truth, whether you like it or not

I agree that Sergio wouldn't be P4P#1, but people need to stop trolling with the Murray fight, it wasn't even close to a robbery (Martinez v. Cintron/Sturm v. DLH/Abril v. Rios, those are robberies).

If you score the fight round by round there is no way Murray could have won the fight even if he had been awarded the knockdown. It's also worth noting that in the first knockdown Murray actually stepped on Sergio's foot and it could have easily been ruled out, the second was a clear punch behind the head. Murray hardly through a punch in the first 4 rounds (got hit with a clean hard left in the 4th), lost the 7th round clearly, and went survival mode in the last two. He did however win rounds 6, 8, and 10 in very clear fashion and rounds 5 and 9 were very close. Murray was also very, very fortunate not to have been deducted any points.

I feel like many people watched highlights of the fight or never even bothered scoring it round by round. Regardless, the polls on this site showed that most people thought Sergio had won the fight so I guess there must be a conglomerate of Sergio haters gathered here.

from rounds 3-8 murray dominated,,, take it round by round and its an easy 115-113 for murray with no kd scored

No way serg won more than 5 rounds,,, Murray walked him down and beat him up

I really like serg, but not biased or a fanboy to think he beat murray,,, round by round scoring clearly shows murray won that fight
