I include Williams and Margerito sp) as two of his better bouts also. If its at 147 or 154 to me its all the same, the junior division are a bunch of BS!
I don't discount losses the way fans do, for me Leonards loss to Duran is his defining moment in his career and that fight set him up to succeed and become a better fighter. Same for Sergio, Pavlik wasn't the same fighter and although thats not on Sergio the fact remains he won.

The whole p4p thing gets absurd at times.
Why does there have to be one all the time?
Why in the world is there more than one?
Since when is second and third that important?

The bottom line is that Sergio is at the end, the last bout showed that.
To me when he refused to stop Junior in their bout I knew this guy had something to hide. Whe you have a fighter finished or the ref ready to step in you get it done. Sergio is good but in with the best of the division all time he gets hammered. Imagine him in there with Monzon or LaMotta? Jake would take his boxing shoes off and put on tennis shoes (sneakers of the era) HA!!
I'm not sure that Sergio can handle solid power either, he's on the run for more reasons other than defense. Ray

in which universe is martinez a more dominant MW champ than hopkins? BHop cleaned out the division and reigned for years. martinez is strugglin more and more each defense including what should have been a loss in his last fight and he isnt even fighting the two toughest guys out there.

he was p4p top4 at one point, but he deserves to fall in the rankings following his recent outings and the fact that he isnt fighting the most dangerous emerging threats to his throne

Martinez shouldn't be P4P #1 pretty much for what everybody else said. And no, he didn't beat Murray. At best it's a draw and even that would be a slight robbery. He got credit for coming from behind to beat C and D fighters, but P4P #1s should be rolling over much lesser competition not hanging on for dear life. Even hyped up prospects beat the heck out of the people they're supposed to beat. I actually think he has skills, he's just inconsistent with it.

The BEST MW of All-time was .....Marvin Hagler, period. He fought better competition than all the rest and whooped 'em.

BHOP is an ATG..no debating that...but his wins over his generation of MW was terrible. He beat an excellent Tito,a WW in ODLH,and got embarrassed by RJJ.BHOP was genius by making Pavlik fight at 170 lbs and Oscar at 156 lbs.

Sergio has wins over legit top P4P fighters like Pavlik and Paul Williams.

With that being said...Sergio would have beat BHOP,handidly IMO.

P4P #1 fighters don't need gift decisions against relatively unknown fighters.

Exactly. Imagine if Floyd fought a Martin Murray caliber opponent and got a gift decision? LOL

I absolutely love what Sergio did to the Suliaman favored daddy's boy (Chavez Jr) and I think he is a quality fighter. That said, I (like most others) thought he lost to Murray and that's his only fight in the last year. P4P #1? No, not even top 5

Well I feel he is easily 2-3...now some people might might Marquez, Pacquiao and etc in that grouping.

But to me it's clear he's on his way. Dude is the LINEAL, Undisputed MW champ of the world, the most dominant MW champ since Roy Jones Jr.
Has not taking any EASY fights, "maybe not the most popular"
And he is more active than some of the YOUNGER guys...IE Gamboa, Russell and Andre Ward all while being much older.

So is response to the other thread regarding "If May losses who is P4P number 1" it's clear It's Marvilla Martinez.

He's Argentinian, not many website groupies. He's soft spoken. He's near Floyds weight class any mention of Martinez is off the record, when a true threat is near Floyd than pretend the threat isn't even there.
