Comments Thread For: Sanchez: Andre Ward Should Tune Up on ESPN, Not HBO!

Mayweather came back from a two year vacation and fought a lightweight, even then stealing 2lbs off him.
Andre Ward has never been out of the ring for two years, he hasn't even been out of the ring one year yet, and he's not coming back to fight an opponent from 2 divisions below.Comment

I may be in the minority on this but this is getting old. Ward has been cleared to fight yet they still don't have a clue to who it will be. He seems to want all the advantages and control everything. On top of that hes very in active as a top fighter even before this previous injury or the super 6 tournament.Comment

It's very clownish of you to think that that was what I was implying. I've stated several times that good fights for GGG would be Quillen, Martinez, Ward, hell i'd even be ok with Danny Jacobs or Martin Murray. Punching the hell out of opponents is cute for a while but eventually you've got to start punching the hell out of someone who can punch back.I told you guiz, Krusty Sanchez is the new Freddie Roach.
Yeah how can Sanchez yap about Ward taking on easy opponents on HBO when his fighter is taking on Curtis Stevens in a fight which isn't expected to go past 3 rounds?
Ward is prepared to fight #7 Rodriguez, hardly a tune-up.
Yeah, the only credible opponent is the PFP No.2 a division above.

... "The broad feeling now appears to be that he should move up to light heavyweight and source new opponents in order to secure his legacy -- or, failing that, at the very least take a temporary financial hit to fight a lesser opponent in a tune-up at 168, someone like Edwin Rodriguez, who is reportedly being lowballed by Ward as we speak. Whilst I can’t argue with the former option, and wins over the likes of Sergey Kovalev and Adonis Stevenson would do his profile no harm at all, I also can’t help but feel that the problem is less tied up in circumstance and more a product of Ward’s single-mindedness. If the sport of boxing doesn’t break you, it will at the very least force you to bend. Andre Ward is 29 and in his prime. He simply cannot afford to repeat the year in pugilistic limbo that his aversion to compromise has bought him. His time is now and he must be prepared to step out of his West Coast comfort zone and bring the fight to his opponents. He must swallow his pride and take a risk or two."Comment
