Comments Thread For: Sanchez: Andre Ward Should Tune Up on ESPN, Not HBO!

Abel Sanchez, the trainer of IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24KOs) and several others, is siding with HBO's decision to reject several potential opponents that were presented to face Andre Ward (26-0, 14KOs) on their network. Ward has been inactive since last September's TKO of Chad Dawson. During training camp for an early 2013 return, Ward suffered a shoulder injury which required surgery.

Gotta agree with that and I'm a Ward fan.

Sanchez is speaking the truth, he's not taking shots at Ward. Why should HBO constantly pay for a no name, no hope, tomato cans in what has been a pretty solid year for boxing. I hope Ward comes back strong though.

Agree with Sanchez - he is talking sense. HBO (and the public) will want a big name fight. I'd want a tune-up if I was Ward but he shouldn't really expect much help from HBO on that front...

Yeah - I like Ward too, but he can't expect to get a prime slot for people to watch him beating up on low calibre opponents.

Glad to see Sanchez is still talking up a Ward - GGG bout though, that one will be special. Wonder if they can move MSG to Oakland? LOL.

... Times They Are a-Changin'... even in boxing...

Slow business can't afford guys like Ward, B-Hop, and Rigo any longer.
              It's sad, but it's true.

Ward fan, but I agree. Ain't nobody got time to watch throw-aways on HBO.

Unfortunately, Ward is no Mayweather who can take a year off and come right back To the game and fight a future HOF'er.

What's worse is that Ward is coming off an injury so a tune up fight makes sense, but it looks like he would actually need to hit the ESPN circuit back up for that one tune up.

Seems like a step back for such an elite fighter, but like MDPopescu said...
