Comments Thread For: Sanchez: Andre Ward Should Tune Up on ESPN, Not HBO!

Ok he did pipi mouth dirty but so what.... My point is come back and fight whoever HBO wants. Wtf, if Wards as good as ya say, Rodriguez is a tune up for Ward.Mayweather came back from a two year vacation and fought a lightweight, even then stealing 2lbs off him.
Andre Ward has never been out of the ring for two years, he hasn't even been out of the ring one year yet, and he's not coming back to fight an opponent from 2 divisions below.Comment

First of all, this statement is some pure haterism. Why is it any of Sanchez's business where Andre Ward's fights are televised? Is he saying this to try to keep Ward from sharing the same level of exposure as Golovkin? If this is strictly about him agreeing with HBO's so called decision then why not suggest Ward go fight at Showtime? Ward doesn't lose any prestige and HBO doesn't have to pay for his purse in that scenario. But instead he suggests that Ward go to ESPN. HBO is digging its own grave here with this exciting fight non sense. And if they shared inside info with the public about negotiating failed deals with Ward then they have done him a disservice. He should start looking for a way out of the New Deal HBO because they seem to be on their way out of the boxing business. Refusing to do business with one of the major promoters in the business, refusing to give Guillermo Rigondeaux a fight after he beat a p4p entrant in Nonito Donaire and now trying to diminish the status of Andre Ward with threats of refusing to televise his fights. HBO boxing is starting to suck a$$.
Lol yup... Ross Greenburg was like the sport GOD at HBO now it's hell since he left. And I thought the same exact thing wtf is GGG yet alone his handlers to comment on a already proven fighter. He fought NOBODY we don't even know if he's legit or not.Comment

Rodriguez was offered 800k, he's holding out for $1 million. I don't really think that's being low-balled.... "The broad feeling now appears to be that he should move up to light heavyweight and source new opponents in order to secure his legacy -- or, failing that, at the very least take a temporary financial hit to fight a lesser opponent in a tune-up at 168, someone like Edwin Rodriguez, who is reportedly being lowballed by Ward as we speak.
Robert Guerrero, with Berto and Aydin to his name at WW is better than Mikkel Kessler, Chad Dawson and Carl Froch? come on man.
Ward wants to fight Rodriguez. It's just the financial split which is preventing the fight from going again (that and E-Rod didn't want to fight in Sept).Comment

And your point is? Mines was HBO is losing stock. I used that as an example how they're letting CBS/Showtime kick their ass up and down Maddison Avenue. This is America nobody is tuning in to watch Darren Barker headline a fight and if that's their new direction they better dig up James Gandolfini's body and redo the Sorpranos to save some face.Comment

Guerrero is better then Froch IMO. Dawson at 168 was joke. Kessler got butted to death, those 2 wins aren't that good for me.Rodriguez was offered 800k, he's holding out for $1 million. I don't really think that's being low-balled.

Guerrero's best win at WW is Berto.
Froch's best wins at 168 are Pascal, Taylor, Bute and Kessler.
Froch is on almost all the PFP lists, Guerrero is on none. Everyone can have an opinion and you might even be right down the line, but the evidence currently doesn't support Guerrero.Comment

Sounds like Steve Kim. WTF is it with this, 800k is amazing for a guy like Rodriguez, unless he thinks the loss would demoralize and set him back a lot... Whilst I can’t argue with the former option, and wins over the likes of Sergey Kovalev and Adonis Stevenson would do his profile no harm at all, I also can’t help but feel that the problem is less tied up in circumstance and more a product of Ward’s single-mindedness. If the sport of boxing doesn’t break you, it will at the very least force you to bend. Andre Ward is 29 and in his prime. He simply cannot afford to repeat the year in pugilistic limbo that his aversion to compromise has bought him. His time is now and he must be prepared to step out of his West Coast comfort zone and bring the fight to his opponents. He must swallow his pride and take a risk or two."Comment

Have you seen Showtime's schedule after this ppv? It's Hopkins vs Murat, and Khan vs TBA. They have to put Broner Maidana on ppv lol cause the budget is dry.And your point is? Have you seen Showtime's numbers? Less than 500k viewers for Mares Gonzalez. Good numbers for Broner Paulie, but only 10% higher than GGG Macklin, which cost 4x less. That's bad business. HBO learned something about bad business with that GBP output deal under Greenburg, Showtime's turn to learn.Comment
