Uh, HBO is currently overplaying like crazy for Golovkin's next tuneup fight. If Steven's is getting close to 400k, I imagine Golovkin is finally getting paid close to 7 figures,

Under the present business circumstances, Golovkin (at least) delivers: he's to fight four times this year.Comment

I think HBO is kinda wary of Ward; obviously Ward is a hot commodity and they want him to fight so they can make money, but Ward does have a little injury prone problem.
- Super Six got delayed (and lost some marketability hype in the process) because of a cut
- After the Froch fight his broken hand shelfed him
- His shoulder injury took him out for nearly a year.
In 27 months Ward has only fought twice. HBO may not want to give Ward the big paydays if Ward only fights one time a year. Mayweather got away with it because he built a marketable aura and a persona that made people tune in and say 'I hate this guy, I'll pay 60 bucks to see him lose!'. Ward doesn't have that.
I think Ward should just bite the bullet, accept that his injuries hurt his marketability, and take some quick back to back tune ups for less money and then return the king to HBO.Last edited by anonymous2.0; 09-05-2013, 09:25 AM.Comment

Over for HBO
First of all, this statement is some pure haterism. Why is it any of Sanchez's business where Andre Ward's fights are televised? Is he saying this to try to keep Ward from sharing the same level of exposure as Golovkin? If this is strictly about him agreeing with HBO's so called decision then why not suggest Ward go fight at Showtime? Ward doesn't lose any prestige and HBO doesn't have to pay for his purse in that scenario. But instead he suggests that Ward go to ESPN. HBO is digging its own grave here with this exciting fight non sense. And if they shared inside info with the public about negotiating failed deals with Ward then they have done him a disservice. He should start looking for a way out of the New Deal HBO because they seem to be on their way out of the boxing business. Refusing to do business with one of the major promoters in the business, refusing to give Guillermo Rigondeaux a fight after he beat a p4p entrant in Nonito Donaire and now trying to diminish the status of Andre Ward with threats of refusing to televise his fights. HBO boxing is starting to suck a$$.Comment

Abel is really feeling himself. I would like to hear the question he was asked and not just his response. Andre ward called edwin rodriguez's bluff. Edwin labomba rodriguez is better than anyone GGG has faced. Edwin rodriguez would have gotten a career high payday etc. GgG needs to worry about stevens who is riding a boat load of confidence these days - tho GGG should wreck him, stevens is a live dog in the match and I predict he will make GGG apply some defense at some point which I am looking fwd to witnessing - sanchez is a good trainer but his guys are losing left and right (cloud / carson jones) ward is the wrong cat to talk shyt about.Comment

Overpaying like crazy? Don't be ridiculous, they paid 2.2 mil for Dawson- ward and it only got 1.3 mil viewers. Also paid 2 mil for rios- Alvarado 2 which got 1.2 mil. HBO probably aren't even paying 1 mil for this figh and it will do similar numbers. Golovkin comes cheapComment

I understand HBO has been getting a decent deal for Golovkin's past few fights, but I don't think that's the case with the with the Stevens fight anymore. Sanchez brings up the good point of fans wanting better fights. So even if HBO got Stevens for cheap, isn't HBO's boxing brand supposed to quality fights, not bargain fights?Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 09-05-2013, 10:03 AM.Comment
