I agree. Mayweather shuts his opponents down, but that is IF he can take your weapons away. He never did that with Cotto. Cotto hung in there until the final bell and busted Mayweather up. People have been saying Canelo is a bigger, stronger Cotto. For a number of reasons, I don't think that is a fair assessment but two things in this fight are as near certain as anything in boxing can be. 1) Mayweather is the superior fighter and will make Canelo look amateurish from time to time. 2) Mayweather is most definitely NOT getting a knockout. If he can stun Canelo, he should count that as a moral victory.
May has the power that makes you 2nd and 3rd guess throwing a punch, for fear of a swift counter. At WW and above, he doesn't have the kind of power to put men to bed or make them quit on their stools.

Floyd actually let his hands go and sat down on 2-3 punches in the 12th round of the Cotto fight. He hasn't punched that way since... ever, really. He most definitely could KO Canelo if he went for it, but he never takes the risk.
I think he wanted to show Cotto that he could punch too, since Cotto was the hardest puncher he ever faced (he allegedly told Paulie Malinaggi as much). You could see the additional velocity of those punches in the 12th round - just look for the fight on youtube and see what I mean.
Yup. Fast forward to about 1:40 in the video, which is about 1:14 left in the fight, and Mayweather hurts cotto with a left uppercut.. staggers him a few times after that as well.. Loved the way Mayweather fought in this bout, despite many saying he "lost his legs" or "lost a step" simply because he chose to go toe-to-toe with Cotto.. Then he chooses to not get hit as much, and show his elite footwork against The Ghost, and those same people are saying "he ran" the whole fight. lol it never ends.
