This could turn out to be a bad decision, but it should be respected. These two are gonna be hungry as hell in the rematch.

All this sissy, safety first ****, is for guys who are afraid to take chances. And more often than not, are often boring. Boxing is the sport of fighting. Where two men look eachother in the eye and say, "I'll beat you before you beat me".

Abner Mares is the epitome of that in todays landscape.
You went a little overboard with your reply. I simply said that you don't often see a fighter win a return match after being stretched in one the first time around. How many examples can you think of? If Mares wants to give it go, that's just fine with me.

And, once again, there's no comparison whatsoever with Abner's chances in a rematch and Leonard-Duran II...none.

Good decision, he needs to try to settle the score and prove it was a fluke.

yah mares is a good fighter....but nothing on the top ten p4p level...getting stopped in the first round by a past prime and shopworn fighter doesn't scream top ten p4p material...but props to him for wanting to rematch gonzalez...mares better remember to keep that right glove up or he's getting ko'ed again.

He was disposed of in the first round, so taking some time to digest what happened and doing everything he can to try to minimize the risk of it happening again wouldn't be a bad idea.
A 12 round war would have taken more out of him than a first round KO, especially since he didn't get knocked out cold, so why should he take more time off if he didn't take much damage? Doesn't make sense.

I guess you missed the Ponce De Leon fight.

You're aware of the guys that stopped Wlad Kitschko, right?

well look at what wlad accomplished since then...i'm saying as of right now mares isn't top ten p4p material but that could change depending on how he does in future fights and if he learns from his past mistakes and improves on them..he is young and so there is still room for improvement (i.e. improving his defense) ..so as he may not be considered p4p material now it doesn't mean he can't attain that status in the future...

no need to get bent out of shape because mares isn't p4p material right now...

You compare Mares with V, are you out of your mind? Besides, it was totally different fight, V could have won the 1st fight if he was feeling OK. Mares is more like Marquez so get over it. Mares was KO'd in the 1st round, 1st round! live with it!

Mares is a completely different fighter than JML. Just completely better in every single way.

The next $600 you spend should be directed to a psychiatrist.
nah. I prefer to spend my money on guys who chose to beat each other from pillar to post. makes for great entertainment.
