Fighting Current Champions = Safety First? (only if your Mayweather?)

People said he would never fight Shane.
People said he would never fight Cotto.
People said he would duck Baldomir. (Brian Kenny for instance)
People said he would duck Guerrero. (Pacboy for instance)
People said he would duck Alvarez. (Most of the forum)
People are now saying he'll duck Matthysse. And if he does fight him they will say he was a blown up JWW.
Then ofcourse in the middle of that Floyd is always ducking a guy a weight class or 2 above him. It used to be Martinez and now its Golovkin.

I'm posing this question because below I see many threads claiming Floyd is a cherrypicker, has only beat 2 undefeated fighters, that he fights more leftovers than Manny Pacquiao, that he dont take tough challenges, that he ducks this guy and that guy, that he's safety first...
My question is how is fighting nothing but current champions considered safety first? How can Floyd be said to not face tough challenges when all he does is fight champion after champion?
Basically what I'm reading is that as far as this forum is concerned De La Hoya, Hatton, Marquez, Mosley, Ortiz, Cotto, Guerrero, Alvarez (all current champions at the time) aren't tough challenges? Those are all easy fights, right?
What is the reason for the catchweight at 52? When they'er both champs at 54?Comment

Then why didn't Floyd cancel negotiations and fight Joshua Clottey? Afteralll thats what Manny did when Floyd accepted the 10 million weight penalty, the 50/50 split, and the 14 day cutoff date...(all attempts to duck right?)Comment

I think its because of two reasons one was Floyd wanting to put the kid in his place after Canelo gave Floyd that ultimatum and the second reason was because he came into his last fight a Light Heavyweight.
Now do I think the 2 pounds will make a huge difference? No. Outher than putting into Canelos mind during camp that he has an extra 2 pounds to drop is a mental advantage more so than a physical one. Canelo will waltz in the ring a healthy light heavyweight regardless.Comment
