I voted for Ward and I don't think it's even close. If Gonzalez had a record as good as Ward's he would have been the favorite to beat Mares instead of a big underdog. The Mares KO was impressive but I don't think it makes his losses go away or catches him up with the undefeated Ward. Ward is clearly the best in his weight class and I don't think Gonzalez is clearly the best in his weight class.

Froch has wins over Pascal, Taylor, Abraham, Johnson, Bute, and Kessler. I don't really rate the Dirrell win either because that was clear win for Dirrell in my book.

Also when Ward beat Froch, he was not Top 10 P4P or unbeaten, and only really had 4 legit wins at the time, while being 34. Mares was only 27, in his absolute prime, should have had about 5 legit and good wins on his resume over 3 divisions, and was basically a consensus Top 10 P4P fighter.

Granted I think Froch is the better fighter, I think Mares at that point was the bigger win though. Mares isn't chop liver.
Saying he deserved the W over Perez is like saying he deserved the L over Darchinyan. Both fights could have gone either way. He looked terrible against Darchinyan.

The only fights Mares has looked impressive to me are against Moreno and the second Agbeko fight.

Every other time he'd fought a legit top fighter he has been underwhelming to me.

Froch isn't a weight jumper, Mares being "top 10 P4P" doesn't really matter because Froch went on to be Top 10 P4P and still is.

Froch is just better IMO he's a better fighter and a better win.

There's a reason weight jumping is given extra credit in the p4p stakes, it's the risk. It's why the Canelo fight has any intrigue, and it's why 2x SWW champ is asking to unify at a CW. Fighting bigger guys is dangerous.

I don`t think Ward`s resume is all that compared to resume`s of Floyd,Pacquiao,Juan Manuel Marquez,Hopkins and Wladimir Kiltschko.

Stop trying to rewrite history. Nobody was saying that.

To answer your question, hell no. Unless you want to ignore losses.

Mares looked good against Ponce though too. Moreno, no one thought he was beating Moreno, and he did. He looked sub par against Vic, but I still felt he won. Probably the bias for Mares as a fan though.

I see what you're saying, but I could see why someone would think Jhonny beating Mares was a huge win. If Mares goes on to win another title or two, and gets more legit wins, I don't even think it'll be that close. But we don't know how he'll bounce back of course. Froch is still going strong too which makes Wards win over him look better and better.

I thought he looked very underwhelming against Ponce De Leon. I have only viewed the fight once which was in the Arena so at one angle but from what I saw he was far from impressive.

Like I said, the only fights considered him to be impressive in is the Moreno fight and Agbeko 1 fight and the only fight he looked like P4P calibur was the Moreno fight.

Gonzalez beating Mares is a huge win obviously, it's just not as good as beating Froch.

Ward entering the Super 6 tournament wasn't a risk? Nobody even thought he would beat Kessler

People with losses have been rated higher than people with a 0 in history.

It was but you're the one trying to flip it. But one thing I would say is that he took the least risks in the tournament. Everyone else went to fight somewhere except him.
