He says Mayweather would have been "just another guy in the bunch."

Duran is not impressed with Mayweather's level of competition, stating that there is no comparison between the top contenders of today and the fighters who ruled from junior welterweight to middleweight 30 years ago. Duran said Mayweather should have a loss on his record from the first fight with Jose Luis Castillo and he scored the fight with Oscar De La Hoya as a draw. [Click Here To Read More]
Considering that Duran lost the majority of the fights he fought from 147 and up, his comments don't mean a hell of a lot. Mayweather's best weight is 140 and he has no business fighting at 154. If Mayweather had fought during Duran's era, he probably would have stayed between 130 and 140 pounds. He would have schooled Duran at 135 and probably stopped him.

I think the first fight was close........I think Castillo should have gotten it but it was close.

Having said that, Floyd didn't 'TAKE' Castillo's title.

Second fight was similar but Floyd clearly was able to land better shots than the first fight.

Whether the punch stats in either fight told the story.......I'd say it was pretty close to accurate in the first one. Castillo outworked him, got little credit from the judges for body work, made Floyd very uncomfortable, controlled most of the fight.........and Floyd did nothing to take a reigning champions title..........

The reason Castillo gave Floyd problems had nothing to do with any 'blueprint'......Castillo ALWAYS fought that way. Floyd was good enough not to get caught clean by any of Castillo's hooks............Floyd couldn't hurt Castillo, good hands or bad........and Castillo had serious determination, stayed close and refused to go away because that's just who he was...........

Floyd hasn't fought anyone like that since..........

Yes, more likely to happen actually....

I was just talking about the only scenario floyd would quit.... i think he beats on canelo, maybe stops him on cuts,,, i dont see floyd ko'ing him cold

Good post. I like this post.

I think that Castillo's weight, body punching, and granite chin kept him in the first fight. Floyd imo won the fight on landing the cleaner punches, but Castillo used rough house tactics and never quit.

I can't say that Castillo won, but I'm glad Floyd gave him a rematch. That was an honorable thing to do, but Floyd's critics say that he gave him a rematch because he knew he lost. Really?

Also Duran was the first guy in haglers title ti go the distance in a close competitive fight. And this dude was a light weight fighting arguably the best middle weight of all time.

                      Duran smashes Floyd easily.
Yes and we all know Floyd doesn't have the balls to fight at 160 even though duran did it no problem. Floyd groupies have a heart attack at the mention of Floyd at 160 they start shrieking like women
