Duran talks about Floyd probably because Floyd reminds him of Leonard.

Yeah, Duran may have used a bit of hyperbole here, (could be resentment towards Mayweather remaining undefeated all these years partially due to long layoff's and scoring the biggest paydays) but he is right in his general sentiment.
What he probably is getting at is that Floyd would have to get through a much harder crop of fighters to get where he is and would've lost somewhere along the way, and had to do a rematch and triology like everyone else.

Accurate assessment about Duran-Leonard II. Duran took the money and ran...sticking it to the fans. SRL & the fans were mocking Duran, hooting at SRL's monkey faces and bolo punches. Duran was in no shape for that track meet.
I could see Duran KO'ing Floyd at LW.......I think he would have avoided it but 15 rounds is EXTREMELY different than 12.
I do think in a rematch Floyd would have made some adjustments..........but you may be right. It may have had to taken place at WW for Floyd to actually beat him........
But I'll take being one off..........you seem to have been around then........and based on your take on SRL-Duran 2, I'll take your post as a compliment.
Thank you........

Floyd would be a great fighter in any era,, in durans era floyd would have stayed at the lower weights,,, He would have had excellent battles with alexis arguello and pryor.....
And yes the current era of boxing is super weak compared to yesteryears...
Heavy- wlad, vitali, haye or tyson, holy, lewis, bowe, ali/frazier/foreman
middleweights, serg, ggg, murray, quillen or jones, toney, benn eubanks nunn
light heavys- foster, spinks, mustafa muhammed or stevenson, dawson, pascal
welter- duran, hearns leonard, benitz,, or tito, ike, oscar shane,, now floyd, khan alexander....
Today's depth is very shallow,,,, guys like mccallum, curry and meldrick would look like unbeatable monsters right now if they fought in this era...
guys like floyd, jmm, manny would be hall of famers in any era,, but they seem like ATG or the Goat because there is just not any depth to the sport as their was in the past...

I mean if pbf got outlanded what did he do to deserve to win the fight?? He clearly didn't pressure or controlled the tempo. Castillo outworked him and outlanded him and pressure him all night. I don't see that as a close fight sorry dude stopped being biased
