What's up, he can fight Canelo at 154 but he cant do the same with GGG?
Come on, Floyd's the undefeated god of boxing, what's poor little GGG going to do to him. Easy money for Floyd! No? You dont like that cherry either?
Maybe Floyd can go after Danny Garcia after Lucas leaves him with brain damage.
How are Canelo and Golovkin comparable?

In Canelo's last fight he was under the Jr WW limit, he has never been over it.

3 years ago, Canelo was at 147.

Golovkin has never been lower than 159 lbs his ENTIRE career which has spanned 7 years and has even weighed in over the MW limit on multiple occasions. And it's been even longer than that since he weighed 154 as an amateur.

It's not the same at all.

Expecting Mayweather to fight a guy who's entire 7 year career has been at MW is ridiculous to be honest.

So moving down seems logical even without the Mayweather fight. And that still puts him in position for a Mayweather fight in regards to legitimate demand. Because as long as he stays at MW he has no leg to stand on in regards to a Mayweather fight.

In regards to the actual fight, assuming Golovkin can make 154 just as comfortable as he can 160 (for the record I highly doubt this) but lets assume he can, then he's a much tougher fight for Mayweather than Canelo IMO.
I honestly think it's possibly because Gennady has been avoided by a lot of fighters, and although I like Cotto etc, I think they would attempt to avoid him for a very long time - he's pure danger at the moment, and he would be fighting nobody 154'ers for a while until someone had the balls to step up. Where as he's established himself quite effectively at 160 so I imagine he intends to stay there and work his way up to Martinez, Chavez and later Froch and Ward, which seem more likely.

Well, yes it is very unlikely.

A guy who started his career at 130 lbs fighting a guy who's entire 7 year career and counting has been at MW is usually an unlikely scenario.

Again, because there are no good SWW options for him at HBO, and he's not screwing HBO for Carlos Molina.

All right stop, you're making me laugh now.

Pacquiao destroys DLH at any weight. Even if they had it 4 pounds heavier the gulf in class was too big, DLH could barely land a punch, he was too slow. Moreover Ward would beat Dawson at '75, what is it you chaps like to say....'skills pays the bills'.

Anyhow, just to be clear I wouldn't actually expect Mayweather to fight Golovkin, he is a beast. I'm just laying it out once again that FMJ's not a guy to take on all-comers, he's a cherry-picker and has been for over a decade.
So you're implying that Golovkin is a better fighter than Mayweather? AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA HA

Golovkin is older than Canelo and stopped growing. Canelo's max fight night weight is higher, and has probably not peaked.

              • Golovkin has an even more padded record than Canelo Alvarez and Broner combined and he's already an all time great. I love NSB Boxing fans. They completely disregard logic and they live in a fantasy world lol

That's true but I think if he's not willing to move down to put himself in position of demand then he should give up on he Mayweather fight because again a career MW calling out a WW who selectively fights at JR MW despite being no lower than 159 in his career is something that's just not going to surface.

The other route is more likely and logical.

An lets be honest, how many fighters in the history of the sport have started their career at a weight, fought there got 7 years then moved down in weight? I would guess at 0.

Glovkin has been @ 160 for almost a decade, and has no business returning to 154 for Mayweather or anyone else. if he hasnt fought Martinez, and guys like Canelo or Lara at 160 then he shouldn't even be in a Mayweather discussion.

How do you know Golovkin has stopped growing? You believe Mayweather has grown from when he was 30, do you not?

Canelo's heavier in fight night. As was Arturo Gatti. As is Victor Ortiz. Weighing in at the weights they can/did are completely different stories.
