The ref can stop the fight at anytime if he believes the fighter is unable to continue. Waiting until 9 can make a ref think that, no?

Not really man, you had Ponce v Mares not long ago and countless other examples across the pond and in Germany (Klit-Charr?).

Anyhow, the early stoppages are better than the health-damaging late stoppages like Lebedev-Jones and even Thompson-Price.

I'd be pissed if i paid to watch a fight and it got called off like it did tonight. If Malik really didnt want to continue it would have been obvious within the next few seconds. His life/health wasnt in danger at all, its just common sense.
I think Scott was trying to use the full count to see out the round, he had a guy behind him talking to him when he was down.

People mentioned the Tyson Douglas fight, Tyson was on his feet at 9 and the ref didn't count 10 he just waved it off like this fight........

Tyson was visibly out of it. Malik was fine.

We didn't know that and this thread is about the the ref not counting 10. The ref didn't count 10 in the Tyson-Douglas fight.

The issue they're discussing was the count, not the condition of the fighter.

Rightly or wrongly, it would appear refs do go from 9 to the wave on a semi-regular basis.

Anyhow, if Scott was fine why didn't he get up sooner? even Chad Dawson made it up on 8 after a Stevenson special.

No, a TKO is if the Ref believes the fighter is unfit to continue, which can be any time. Did Floyd KO Hatton? No it was a TKO. Same with Mosley Marg
