I call BS on HBO not "wanting" Rigondeaux

Boxing is a business more than it is a sport. No one will find excitement from a foreign defensive boxer otherwise tickets, Ppv and interest would rise. I'm sure Rigondeaux is expecting a huge pay check after schoolin nonito and becoming champion. Problem is that his promoters can't promise him the cash he rightfully deserves.
You can almost compare Rigondeaux to Mayweather except May is the highest paid athlete in the world. Most of the time May is boring in the ring but exciting out the ring too. Not only that but May is a great business man and can bring millions to see his fights.
I don't think hbo should drop Rigondeaux, that would be a huge mistake. I think there's a lot of potential for Rigondeaux let's just see if his promoters can do him a good job.

I'm also going for the theory that Rigo is asking a lot more than what HBO is willing to pay for his fights. He's in a division nobody cares about and he's made it clear that he's staying there. Opponents would also probably demand a lot to fight Rigo so it makes it even more impossible to get him on TV. I remember someone saying Golden Boy made Rigo an offer of a 450k minimum per fight. If that's true, Arum would have had to at least match that. It could be Arum's fault for promising so high of a minimum and can't get the networks to pay up.
HBO is paying an exciting fighter like Golovkin, who's in a relevant division, only 350k per fight. Why would HBO want to pay freaken Rigo more than that? He got lucky as hell that HBO coughed up the money for the Donaire fight. He shouldn't expect anywhere near that amount again.Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 07-10-2013, 09:04 PM.Comment

I would say yea it is BS kind of~ I think HBO would show him for the right price against a solid guy, but probably not to headline an event for a high fee.
It is that Arum half truth thing, sure there is some truth in it and it may be that Rigondeaux wants that much (what HBO is unwilling to pay) and will accept no less but is he being told what he needs to accept to get a fight or is Arum just talking out of both sides of his mouth~
Oh and the Gaele fight makes sense considering how HBO needs guys for either Sergio or Golovkin to fight, so making that fight somewhat on the cheap is a wise investment for their near futureComment

Where is there any evidence that Rigondeaux is asking for too much money? Yeah he got paid 750k in his last fight but that was against Donaire. That was Rigo's money fight. I haven't seen any interviews where he's asking for that kind of money.Comment

With literally two people to fight. At best. And he's already an older guy. Why would HBO want to invest in a boring fighter (sorry to the boxing hipsters on here) with hardly any enticing match ups who is also into his 30's already? Oh and he's in a division nobody cares about anyways. Nobody gave a **** about Nonito and he was knocking guys out left and right. A counter puncher who is willing to throw ten punches a round is a hard sell in the real world.Comment
