Was I The Only One Impressed By Broner?

I know what you mean but broner's flaws were really illuminated in this fight. he won which counts. it was a good win. but I dont think anyone saw the type of skill that a floyd or a ward possesses.true but maybe if he wasnt in his opponents backyard then they woudlnt have ben been close fights. He definitely has alot to learn. Trust me, Im not sold on him. Im not saying he's going to be great. He could be great but he could also lose his next fight to some of these top guys. Neither would surprise me but I dont think he's shown anything for people to call him a bum or get the hate that he has been. Infact, I think what he's done so far he's been underrated instead of being overrated which is the general consensusComment

faux mayweather jr is one of the reasons why i appreciate floyd more everyday. there's alot to dislike about the kid, and usually i don't really give a **** what a fighter is out of the ring, but the kid is a tool. grade A.Comment

see, the power thing works both ways to me. I think guys may be able to hurt him. Maybe not. However, I do think he has more power then he was able to show against Paulie and that everyone else he fights around those weights will feel it. He'll have a much easier time delivering hard blows to any of those guys than he did against Paulie. How could anyone possibly be impressed with Broner? hahaha
Let's look at the facts.
- Broner could not make 135 anymore, so it's not like he "came up two weight classes", he didn't. He was already too big for 135 and might have some slight issues at 140.
- Paulie is a past his prime, feather fisted blown up welterweight. I said before the fight, and so did most of the announcers, Paulie was the smaller man that night, it's the reason Broner targeted him.
- Broner was outworked but when he did land combo's, couldn't even hurt Paulie. I honestly expected him to KO Paulie and he couldn't even stun him.
- Broner showed ZERO movement. Part of it is because he had no respect for Paulie's power and part of it is because he never moves. He just walks forward and likes to counter and everytime he hits someone, they go down. He's not used to someone being able to take his shots.
Broner has good natural ability and skills, but Paulie was right in that he's being hyped up way too much. It's obvious Showtime likes him and a lot of that has to do with his KO ratio and his loud mouth.
I personally don't think Broner is lb 4 lb, not in the least. I think the monsters at 140 will cause him great problems. He is too flat footed, his defense isn't as good as some might think and when he goes up against someone who doesn't pitty pat, he will feel the difference.
I was FAR from impressed with Broner.
The main thing is him being flat footed. Can he move on his toes? I think he can but hasnt felt the need to show it. I could see him moving more against bigger punchers. On the other hand, if he doesnt then why is that so bad? I remember hearing people say all the time that Floyd is a pity pat runner. I also see everytime Toney fights, all the fans say they love his style and wish Floyd would do more of this.
This is what Broner pretty much does. He stays in the pocket like Toney and gives the excitment that people complain Floyd doesnt. It just didnt look that good against Paulie but against anyone else around those weights, it will look very exciting because they will be more offensive and give him chances to land & counter. Im looking forward to it either wayComment

but see, this is my problem with fans. Lets say that its true he moved up to duck Lucas. 1st of all I dont agree that even if it were true, its just about Lucas. There are a ton of other guys he could fight at 140 besides Lucas.
Back to the point though, fans always want everything yesterday. I never agree with that. Its like he moved up to duck Lucas and now the world ends. The world doesnt end. He can still fight Lucas in his very next fight.
One minute people say he hasnt fought anyone and the next they say they want him to fight the guy who they consider the best in the division. Why? If you dont think he's fought anyone then you should want him to go through the normal steps to get there.
Whats wrong (e****ally at 23 in different weights) to fight Paulie, then Maidana, then Lucas? Is that really so horrible? All that after also fighting PDL & Demarco. He hasnt done nearly as bad as people say. They just want him to lose.
Then you also have to look at the benefits from Broner's side. I talked about this before the fight. I said that I dont like Broner's chances fully to move up to 140 and take on a great fighter right away but if you go to WW and then come back down to 140 then all of assudden it seems alot easier. It makes you feel like you are the bigger stronger guy who is moving back down to fight these guys at 140. If you can handle WW then 140 seems easier to you.
Either way though, we should get the answer to everyone's question in his next fight. I just hope everyone will spare the hate though if he doesnt fight Lucas but still fights a good fighter like Maidana, etc...
I actually would be even interested in seeing a fight with Lopez at 140 but Im probably the only one
you're talking to somebody who pretty regularly supports a fighter being moved slowly. ask around. i am not some fanboy of matthysse, or anybody else. jermain taylor, maybe.
adrian broner is in his prime, with a fully developed pro style. moving him slowly now has nothing to do with his development. i can assure you, that is not what erik gomez and haymon think about when they match him now. it's all about money in the long term, and nothing else.
danny garica isn't enough to get adrian broner to leave 140. he would bring more money to the table than matthysse. they could have that fight in brooklyn and do big gate numbers.
prior to this fight i was saying that the move to 147 wasn't a duck, because i felt broner would be taking hard fights after. he's very blatantly brushed off lucas matthysse. you don't do that if you're looking at him as a potential opponent. you do that if the guy really sucks and brings nothing, or you want to degrade a guy who is very good and a viable opponent. they won't take that fight unless they're literally forced into it.
it's my opinion that broner is being combed as a mayweather opponent (similar but not identical to the manner in which they groomed berto, who lost his eliminators) he won't take many hard fights until then. marcos maidana is not a hard fight. if that's a step up for a prime, top earner that is a problem. the hard, realistic fights were at 140, and he didn't take them.
he's at the right weight now for floyd. he has an alphabet belt. they're fighting for the same network. they're working for the same promotor and manager, who would be willing to put his fighters in with each other. haymon would make 30% of both sides of that fight. it would probably be an eight figure payday for him, with the winner tied up in a contract.Last edited by New England; 06-24-2013, 12:33 PM.Comment

you know, i looked at that matchup like 'ok, im gonna root for Paulie but if this kid is what his fans make him out to be, he's gonna whoop ass...time to show me something'
instead, i saw a befuddled Broner in the early rounds that was getting tagged...pitty pat punches but punches that were losing him rounds
and when Paulie started to gas and slow down, i thought 'ok, this is the part where Broner impresses me'
it never happened...i've seen Paulie in bigger trouble against Cotto and Hatton who i dont think are elite and Broner couldn't even dent a past prime Paulie
i'm just afraid now that, since he couldn't be impressive (outside of DLT, of course) that Haymon and co might not wanna put him in there against too much riskComment

Im not saying I agree or disagree with what you said but lets just say youre right. So! Just because you arent the best fighter of this generation and probably the guy who is going to be the best of the next generation in Ward doesnt mean that you still wont be elite or a very good fighter. There is nothing wrong with not being as good as 2 of the best who we might ever seeComment

I like Broner, I don't agree with Paulie. I think he's good for boxing. However, I think he should be himself. I think the public would like the real Broner we've seen in some interviews not the guy who plays to the camera.true but maybe if he wasnt in his opponents backyard then they woudlnt have ben been close fights. He definitely has alot to learn. Trust me, Im not sold on him. Im not saying he's going to be great. He could be great but he could also lose his next fight to some of these top guys. Neither would surprise me but I dont think he's shown anything for people to call him a bum or get the hate that he has been. The recent hate comes from his fouls in the ring and his disrespect post-fight as well as the perception that he's protected.
As to his ability, I don't think he's ever going to be pfp top 2-3 but he can have a very good career if he's matched well.Comment

to answer your question, no you not, I am also in that ship of people who were very much impressed by his performance however I already know what's coming and that's hate so why even bother to tackle that hate? let the haters do their job and build more hype and wealth for Adrien's future fights. can you imagine with the amount of people who hate him and want to see his ass get beat can you imagine the numbers? he's probably going to be the first fighter to sell 10 million pay per view's with all the hate he gets. not even Floyd got this much hate so soon into his career. All these threads about "I told you so" and blah blah blah.
Again, I cant stress this enough. Just 2 fights ago the dude was at SFW. He was fighting at 130, had just 2 fights at LW, and now is at WW. That is a big jump. Doing all this while he's 23 but he sucks if he doesnt wreck a world champ like Paulie? I dont get it. That was a highly motivated Paulie too.
1st off, I was probably the 1st guy on this site hyping Paulie back in the day. Im a big fan. Ive met both these guys in person and both are really cool guys despite what others think. I remember when pretty much everyone use to hate Paulie and now they all love him. Its funny & convienent.
I go back to the weigh-in. As soon as I saw the vid of them together & face to face, I felt that Broner wouldnt blow him out. I dont care how big you guys think Broner is for the lower weights, its still totally different from fighting a small 130 pounder then it is a WW. Thats an adjustment that he has made in a short trip. Even if you think Paulie is feather fisted, thats not easy to do.
When Broner had the tough fight with Ponce, everyone was ripping him. I said that I thought he looked like the goods but like mostly everyone in boxing, he just struggled because PDL is a Southpaw. I said he would look way better against a righty and sure enough he did. I dont give guys a hard time for struggling with Southpaws. Thats the reason why I give Lucas a break for his fights with Devon & Zab.
As for this fight, I saw some good & bad with Broner. Again, he didnt move much but just like his fights at the lower weights, I didnt think he respected Paulie's Offense so he just tried to stay in the pocket and walk through him. If he foguht a puncher then I think he would move more. Not totally but he would move more.
From watchign the fight I felt Broner was on a totally different level than Paullie. You felt that any second he was about to step it up and start taking Paulie out but you kept waiting & waiting and he never could. Just minor flurries. The main thing to me though is that alot of that and alot of Broner's so called "non power" was due to Paulie.
1st off Paulie has a good chin but I was watching the fght with my girl and I was telling her that everytime Broner lets his hands go, Paulie would bend down real low and come forward which would smother Broner's punches so he couldnt get full power. He did it all fight. Go rewatch it. Therefore Broner couldnt ever open up like he wanted to and he had to throw more arm punches with less power to find the target. When Broner would look for that then Paulie would bend back.
No other guy at 140-147 fights like that. Broner wouldnt have any problem landing full power blows on every other guy because they mostly all are aggressive fighters who are open. None of them do that lil duck & in move. Its kinda like what Floyd was doing to the Ghost alot so he wouldnt get countered.
I hear alot of people saying it was a robbery. Come on now. Thats pure hate. Even if you think Paulie won, there is no way it could be a robbery. It was a close fight that could be somewhat hard to score.
As for the future, Broner said he would let the fans pick his opponent and ofcourse everyone comes up with Lucas who is like the new Margarito in terms of hype. Its like they all totally forgot about the Garcia fight and they hate Broner so much that they want to see him get KTFO. Broner sucks but if Lucas struggles with Devon & Zab, he gets a pass? I dont get how that works.
I see some dudes acting like girls like Lucas is coming to save them or saying "I present to you Lucas "The Machine" Mathysse" for Broner's next opponent. The dude is 23. Lets be real, he's not goign to fight him nor should he. As long as he fights a good guy then he's still right on sked. Still, how is this any different then people demanding that Lucas fight Floyd next? Who do you really think would win that? Stop doing stuff just to see guys lose and start being reasonable.
I would love to see him fight Maidana next. Thats the perfect next matchup. A couple of weeks ago everyone was acting like Marcos was a beast after the Lopez fight and everyone wanted to see him fight his Countrymen in Lucas but when Broner might fight him, they act like its a cherry pick or its a typical protected fight. The double standard is crazy.
I would even be fine with Broner fighting at 140. When was the last time you ever saw a guy fight in 4 different divisions in 6 fights besides Pac? Thats big time stuff. I saw one guy said hes garbage and he will definitely lose within the next 6 fights if he fights quality opponents. Im like, how does that make him garbage? Any guy could lose in the next 6 if they are fighting quality guys. They all have pretty much. All these guys around these divisions are good and there is no shame in losing to them.
If he loses, then what? It means he's a bum? You have to be undefeated now? Then you wonder why guys start to cherry pick but you rip them if they lose. You dont even wait for losses now. If its a close fight then he's a bum. I wouldnt put Broner in with Ghost or Ortiz or anyone like that. Stay away from the Southpaws who are big until he gets a lil more seasoned. Fight Maidana. Thats a great fight
It's easier to bash Adrien for that fight than it is Paulie so naturally those who hate him (and there are A LOT) will look for ways to down play Adrien but we know the truth D, we saw what really took place there and that was a great performance by both guys. Adrien for adapting and Paulie for forcing his fightComment
