Can't deny his skill what I've always wondered is why he piggybacks off Mexican holidays. Mexicans love boxing, if you put a ppv fight on those holidays, they're gonna buy it regardless of who's in it.

Grant it, he was avoided alot after he wasted genaro hernadez and manfredy, but since the gatti fight he has been a big money fight for anyone yet he hasnt challenged himself...
It would be like if oscar fought chavez and whitaker and established himself as the #1 money guy and then never fighting tito, ike, mosely, vargas, hopkins,, etc
He called out Tzu I don't know what happen with that fight honesty. Besides I'm not knocking theses fights but he would have to win in spectacular fashion for those to really count. The names you mentioned that Oscar fought there isn't anyone that Floyd could have fought that would compare.

I don't know any fighter that would have chosen those fights over the offer Gatti made to Floyd. Would you take your first million dollar payday and pay-per view start over fighting guys that wouldn't give you true recognition anyway? He sold out like most any fighter would have given the chance. They are prize fighters. That's the sad truth. I do agree there were fights missed though that's for sure.

Duran, SRL, and Hearns would have never pulled some **** like this in 80's
Exactly, they took some easy fights but also never shy'd away from challenges

It's all about money when most fighters become a pay per view headliner.

Those challenges were really how they got paid. We have to keep in mind this was before ppv f***ed the sport up. It brings a different mentality to fighters than now a days.

Besides the networks are double ****ing everyone with the Hbo/top rank and SHO/golden boy beef. A LOT of fights won't be made but they will still get their money.

By the way I think Floyd is an ATG but think he would loose to some of the ATG WWs too. He's too small for some of them even with such a high boxing IQ. SRR murders him IMO.

First of all, top guys doesn't always translate to "threatening opponents". Divisions can be relatively weak when compared with other eras .... and therefore make the resume overrated

                  - A lot of those guys that Floyd fought had 0, 1 or 2 fights at WW and that is it. Those they fought had suspect resumes as well. Best example is Marquez who fought at 130 the year before Floyd asked him to fight at WW.
                  - Floyd went on vacation when it got interesting at WW.
                  - Floyd didn't fight some fighters he should have.
                  - Some fights happened late in that the opponent was old/out of prime.

I know that but that doesn't really answer my comment. I guess I'm just wondering if he could sell the same number of ppvs if he fought on a different date

He's not a career WW either. Now if you are defining the guys career you have somewhat of a point but who at WW would make the difference and why?
