Most popular fighters are over rated to a certain degree, I blame it on the over zealous groupies that follow specific boxers instead of the sport of boxing in general. Doesn't really matter which fighter it is, everyday there's a new thread on here praising (fill in the blank) as the greatest thing on earth.

Fact: In boxing anyone can get beat on any given day, nothing is a guaranteed.

Mayweather deserves most of the credit he receives because he's been able to persevere each time he's stepped into the ring. That skill is invaulable and contributes greatly to him being favored over any current fighter between 147lbs to 154lbs.

but Floyd fans keep on bringing up "but Marquez called out Floyd"

The point is, like it or not, there are not many defining moments resume wise. So if you blame him or not, the fact is that he is left with that resume and Floyd didn't care to improve it when the occasions came up.
There were moments that were taken and when he wins the fighter becomes garbage over night. thsts why i think hes fighting mostly for $. Every fighter has missed opportunities and in the ppv age you weigh risk and reward. By the way who was calling him out before he fought Oscar?orb147 no?

By the way I loved the Marquez fight because it showed his skill level. Had he been physical with him I wouldnt give him any credit. I am also a fan of Marquez and other technical fighters.

Yes, Floyd claims to be one of the greatest but also calls himself a scared rich coward, REAL great fighters would never do that.

Mayweather is definitely over rated. The last time he challenged himself was back in 2002 when he took on JLC. Every fight since then has been against someone who was past their prime, someone who was damaged goods or someone moving up in weight. He has been stacking the deck in his favor despite being the one of the most talented fighters ever.

With that said, he is still the most talented fighter I have ever seen but talent alone doesn't make you great. What makes you great is testing your skills against the best available opposition, win or lose. When the going got tough for Floyd, he chose to fight Baldomir, retire and put up road blocks on to why a fight couldn't be made.

The best fighters and trainers call him the best of this era.

Yes there is no doubt about that.... I think the only thing that is overrated is his ATG ranking and legacy... No doubt he is the best of his era but some posters actually think he is the GOAT or ATG top 5

You liked the Marquez fight? Yikes!!! That was a disgrace of a cherry pick!

Marquez had just gone from 130 to 135. Even then, Floyd took no chances and fought carefully. Not only I'm saying this Marquez said it!

Some have a missed opportunity but Floyd has more than one. He could have silenced everyone but chose not to.

I have no problem with Floyd fighting for money but then one can't come back and say, Floyd took on all comers because he didn't .... not even close and that is why we use the word overrated.
