So that's why he's fighting Canelo...

It's a risk of course - there will be loses and gains along the way. What's important is the final calculation at the conclusion of the contract. The total loses/gains is what counts and Showtime are banking on coming out on top after the contract is up and all fights have played out. They should make a lot more with the Alvarez fight and probable rematch down the line.

$12 million loss just for one ppv card is not that big? lol what an idiot.

Well now we all know why Floyd has been forced to fight Canelo, I'm guessing that the 800-900k buys was accurate for the last fight. Who knows, we may get to see the Pac fight finally.

No kidding. 12 mill amounts to about half of their annual boxing budget for the rest of their fights.

Mayweather just isn't a draw. He is hard to promote with his style.

Forbes is not only going to take some rumor and make it news. The guy that wrote that piece showed and provide link to CBS stock index. If it is truth that they gain more subscribers with their new boxing schedule and the industry was able to trace it to their stock value, the same can be done when a loss is register by the company. They loss money. Fortunately it seems like they are in control of a very lucrative contract and it seems like they have the leverage of approving the fights for Floyd. They are not ******, they are not going to pay all that guaranteed money if they don't have a take on the opponents.

Also, it is well known that Floyd pays a significant flat fee to GBP. It is not hard to follow why Floyd is fighting Canelo. Only money fight right now.

u should read the article. they cited an industry insider who said that sho lost 12mil. sho said they didnt. did showtime lose 12mil? highly unlikely. but ppl will believe what they want when it comes to floyd.

De La Hoya and Hatton, they are the ones who sold the fights and brought fans and PPVs.
