Another day another garbage thread. No one cares what manny did yesterday is doing today or will do tomorrow. When he beats rios maybe someone will care again. For right now boxing is resurgent in part because the biggest star made waves when he moved to showtime and is actually fighting more than once in a calendar year in a fight that most want to see.

Another major factor is that hbo is using their resources to put on better fights because their main competitor is investing heavily in boxing and putting on tremendous fights. Now if wlad povetkin gets made and vitali haye the hwt champs return to hbo then things will be even better.

When manny wins again wake us up.

ummm...I don't think Manny is as popular as you think in Asia, yes in the Philippines and among the Filipino diaspora he is obviously undeniably popular, but do people really know him in ALL of Asia, I highly doubt that if you go to China the average person would know Manny and once you leave east Asia the rest of the Asian continent doesn't care about boxing at all, don't get me wrong I know Manny is massive but lets not overstate his popularity.

The Philippines and according to the government of Thailand he's the most popular athlete there too.

A global media and thought leadership platform that elevates voices in the news cycle. Online since 1998.

But you're right it's doubtful that everyone living in their entire continent knows him, but then again there are people that have never heard of ***** because they are secluded from the rest of the world. That doesn't mean Manny overall isn't still a huge global star and that's something Floyd has never been able to accomplish.

Maybe to you but not to everybody. He is well known to all Filipinos though, all I have to do his mention his name to any Filipino that I see in the UK and they get shocked that someone that isn't Filipino knows who he is.

Seems like just a RANDOM thread started by a Pacquiao fan who just want somebody to talk about his favorite fighter because nobody has been talking Pacquiao much lately

As i posted in the mayweather resurgence thread..

                Oscar is the main reason..

Floyd was just a boxing star doing between 300,000-400,000 ppv buys vs zab, baldomir and gatti
Oscar fight propelled him into a mainstream superstar

Oscar did the same with manny..
manny would probably be fighting at the lower weights if it wasnt for oscar fighting him.. Manny became a mainstream superstar because of that fight...

Oscar should deserve alot of the credit for passing the torch

Very true boxing was down/silent in mainstream during the mid-2000s, but broke back big when Pacquiao (a unique story of the only hope 1 nation), became the big underdog beating big guys, and posing a true threat to Mayweather.

Even geeky kids and hipsters know boxing only cuz of Pacquiao and Mayweather link

What "mainstream" did dlh help Manny cross over?

I assume you mean the mainstream here but the problem with that way of thinking is ******ed because as much as I love America I understand that this isn't the only country on the planet. So mainstream here only means something to us in reality...I know I've just blown your mind. Sorry.

Manny was huge in the Philippines before dlh, Hatton was huge in the uk mainstream, Wlad is huge in the German mainstream, etc.

Fighters come here because they can make the most money but as far as fame 9/10 they have way more in other countries. So "mainstream" is highly relative.

Yeah i realize that he was a huge star already in asia before he fought oscar..
But the oscar fight put manny on that global stardom level where everyone in america, mexico, canada, UK, russia, everywhere manny was star just not to Asia, and boxing fans...
The amount of publicity he recieved for the oscar beatdown was huge,,, and double his star power just like it did for floyd
