Manny is the reason for boxing's resurgence

Not only is Pacquiao a well know sports star in the U.S. but internationally he is a megastar bigger than Floyd, bigger than Lebron, bigger than Tiger. Hell in Asia Manny is THE superstar. He has Nike and vodka commercials, has been on daytime and nighttime talk shows. The bottom line is he is very known virtually everywhere. Boxing hasn't seen a crossover star like him since Tyson.

    But...

Even with all that recognition and superstardom beyond what any current athlete here will ever experience, the sport he participates in still has a relatively small fanbase. I fear boxing is becoming a niche sport and will always be behind soccer, football, basketball and baseball in terms of global appeal.

Some people would rather watch people play with balls then boxing. I think that might be self explaining. lol

Manny was the biggest icon not just in sports, not just in entertainment but in any field to 90 million Filipinos years before he fought joto.

Joto never had so much fame that he was better know than than the president. That is the level of Mannys fame. But after Manny beat him it did get him massive American recognition so you are 100% accurate there.

Except no. :|... Its because Soccer exists.

But yes he has a Nike deal which...is nothing compared to other athletes from other sports have with nike.

Hell, Canelo probably has a better endorsement deal with under Armour than Pac does with nike which I heard wasnt that great as his name would suggest he deserves

Pac isnt even the biggest star in his own sport, though he IS the most beloved. There's a difference between the two though.

Anyway, yes well known but like Tyson? How much per gram of what you're smoking? I'd like some. :\.... I'm not sure if even you believe that.

Anyway, Yao Ming is probably the most well known recent athlete..probably

Are you smoking the good stuff?

Go to Asia and mention Floyd mayweather and maybe 1 in 10 might know the name. Then mention Pacquiao and the recognition is almost instantaneous. He is the biggest name in Asian athletics.

Floyd is probably equal to Manny in recognition here...maybe an argument could be made he's a little better know but again only here. The rest of the world don't really know Floyd like they know of Manny.

An ancient Filipino proverb says that he bicep curls his mountain of cash every morning.
