It didn't, and it wont for this either.
The only real issue in this is for some pathetic superiority motive to pretend Pac is more legit and Floyd is his usual fake self. It's just typical politics. In other words, bull****.
The fact that he's taking on Canelo at all is greater than anything Pac has done, arguably since Barrera 1 or moving up to fight Cotto, at a catchweight, or Bradley, at seven pounds higher than Bradley fought at.
Unless people forget a few important facts here: All of Pac's greatest wins in nearly the last decade and the stuff that made his legacy as an ATG has come at catchweights or weights that people hadn't fought at comfortably, ever, or in years.
Oscar: hadn't fought at 147 in nearly a decade.
Marquez: first (ie. their 3rd fight) fought at a catchtweight, then fought at a weight he'd only fought at once and lost horribly, then making him come up to the full division limit because of it.
Cotto: fought at a catchweight for Cotto's title two pounds under the limit.
Morales: wanted to fight above 130 as he'd been struggling to make the limit and said it would have too much of an effect on him.
Bradley: made Bradley come up 7 pounds to fight him at 147, despite making Cotto come down 2 pounds to 145 to fight him for the same title, or making Marquez come up 9 and 12 respectively.
Margarito: Pac winning a 154 pound title at 150, against an untitled, should-have-been-unranked-Margarito coming down to a weight he clearly couldn't make healthily anymore and obviously couldn't fight at.
Rios; Pac's latest fight: making Rios jump up another 7 pounds, despite only just moving up to 140 two fights ago. No one is saying anything about this at all, let alone a million page thread full of nothing but hate and accusations.
Come on guys! Get over yourselves. You argued black and blue saying it was only fair then, all of you, now that someone you hate is doing it for only the second time, you're acting as if the world is ending despite your hero having done it constantly.
Any Floyd fan thinking it is completely ok is idiotic, though only from a political standpoint because the weight isnt going to be an issue at all, but any Pac fan arguing against it is even worse and the most hypocritical POS, fake, ******ed ****er going around. The weight itself isn't the issue. It's purely the politics behind it.
It's what Pac made a career of doing in the last decade, so get the **** over it real quick like. It's no different than Pac/Cotto and no one pretends that was anything other than what it ended up as.
Also, unless you forgot, Canelo has actually fought under and around 152 a lot recently so 152 is not only fine, but is nothing new at all.
He fought Baldomir at 150, Rhodes at 153, Hatton at 151, N'Dou at 149, Trout at 153.5, Jose Cotto at 150, Gomez at 153.5 and more.
In fact, Alvarez's average since 2010 or so is probably at or under 152. Cotto's wasn't. Let it go people. It's the biggest fight in boxing right now, don't ruin with unjustified rubbish, especially when it's actually highly hypocritical. He was fighting as a welterweight up to 2010, and has consistently weighed in under 154 since then often fighting under 152, anywhere between 149 and 153.5 since then.
152 is no problem at all.Last edited by BennyST; 05-30-2013, 12:26 PM.

That doesn't change the fact that there's nothing wrong with this fight.

Canelo will be fine- this fight is a win win situation for him- even more so at a catch weight.
His FIRST PPV headline fight is going to be the biggest PPV since Floyd and Oscar fought. It is unlikely he will get KO'd or humiliated to such a degree that this fight works against him.
He can win- and be an instant worldwide superstar.
He can lose and take his first L against the p4p king of this era. It can be chalked up to inexperience and the catch-weight and leave him unscathed and with a pile of new fans.
He would have to get KO'd the same way Pac did against JMM for this fight to work against him.
I agree with everyone who thinks we hsould just be completely thrilled this fight is happening. Biggest fight in 5 years.

Let's just move on from the silly catchweight argument. It was a fair compromise for Cotto/Pac and it is fair for this fight.
Like I said before, I won't allow Mayweather fans from diminishing my appreciation for Floyd in-ring.
I know Mayweather fans ran that Cotto at 145 argument for years and years and they do look ******, but a superfight was/is the end game in both cases.

That being said the 2 pounds is nothing unless Canelo struggles to make 54!!!!
Also the talk about size differences is silly, their the same size other than Canelo being a little thick and has a different body type! Once again Floyd will have his most important attribute and thats a slight edge in reach!
Both men are just under 5'8" and if Canelo hydrates more than 165 pounds he won't be going the distance with uptima conditioning!! I'd expect Floyd to weigh 153lbs at fight time!!
This will be a tuff one for Canelo at his age and Floyd will fight his best fight to be the winner!!! Congrates to Floyd and its the right fight at the right time!
After this he can coast to the end!!!
then it will be the "seniors" fight.........Floyd vs Pacman!! It will happen!

If they wanted to drain him, or effect the fight, it would be at 150 and there would be a weight clause that would not enable him to come in over 160 by fight time.
Canelo has fought at an average of around 152 over the last few years, with weights like 149 for NDou, 153 for Trout, 151 for Hatton, 154 for Mosley, 150 for Baldomir, 153 for Gomez and Rhodes, 150 for Cotto etc etc.
It's nothing more than a wanker thing to have a 'win' over Alvarez at the very beginning before the fight. Unlike Pac's catchweights, it's purely mindgames. Alvarez has weighed in an average of 152 over the last few years, so it's not the weight at all, it's just a ****head Floyd negotiating thing.
