You wouldn't consider depriving yourself of food and water for an extended period of time until you pass out abusing your body ?
I'm not sure what your point is here. Boxers want to fight at the weight at which they are most competitive.

You can tell a boxer to fight in a weight class above but they might not be effective there e.g. Cotto at 154, or Hatton at 147 and that's their career damaged.

They're not doing it for fun. If a fighter is targeting a certain weight then it is for good reason.

Yeah he looks a lot better from the weigh in shot. I'm still betting that he's sick, but no excuses all hell will break loose tomorrow night.

Why do people act like weight cutting is a walk in the park? No fighter enjoys making weight besides maybe Marquez, Mayweather and Pacquiao. Matthysse looked good at the weigh in

You honestly think if Matthysse moved to 147 he'd do badly?

I don't think he'd be bad, but he won't be the machine he is now. He's not a welterweight.

              Then that's the problem.

So why make excuses for him for cutting to 140? He's no more a welterweight than Pacquiao or Bradley are welterweights.

He looks bad in the first pic, but looks alright in the weigh-in pic.

lucas is not a jr. welterweight............his body has out grew the weight. & it's obvious he's having more trouble getting down to the weight.

i give him 2 fights tops at 140

You get a lot of fighters who blow up between fights, are they supposed to fight at their blown up weight? come on.
This was my point. YOU ARE WRONG. In some cases people are doing major harm to their body and are pushing themselves beyond their limits. Just because a guy " can make it " doesn't mean he isn't abusing his body to do it, sometimes to the point where it affects the outcome of the fight or other times to where the fighter is physically not strong enough to remain conscience and passes out before the weigh in. Don't kid yourself.
