This and Schmeling was already a bit past prime when he beat Louis in the first fight.
Foreman was 40-0-0 37 kos and 25 years old. He was a total monster. Before the fight Foreman fought and destroyed Frazier and Norton. Frazier and Norton gave Ali his most difficult fight.
Just to get how big was the fight. Imagine you're a pro fighter, the two fighters that gave you you're hardest fight get destroyed in 2 rounds by a young undefeated monster who was probably at that time the hardest puncher in history (maybe still is). Ali said he was terrified going into the fight, but he still took the fight (something a p4p fighter today would never do) and won it in impressive fashion.
This fight is the reason why I still consider today Ali as the greatest fighter ever and one of the greatest sportsman in history.
so many great wins out there, impossible to narrow it down to just one. have been some great examples so far.
to add a few.. lamotta beating robinson (even coming up in weight) has to be up there, as does peps comeback against saddler and whitaker beating chavez. for me it comes down to duran beating leonard, frazier beating ali or ali beating foreman though.
Duran over Leonard. There was no way he was suppose to win that fight. He was old, past his prime, moving up in weight, and fighting arguably one of the best welterweights of all time at his absolute physical peak.
