Depends what you mean by greatest.
If you mean which one means the most on a resume then it's definitely not Louis vs Schmeling II. However if you mean in terms of social/cultural/political impact then it definitely is Louis vs Schmeling II. (or Johnson vs Jeffries)Comment

I just want to add that Schmeling was being taken advantage of by the ****'s!
he had a ***ish mananger and trained in the States many times before. He was not considered a "has been" prior to the first fight! Scmeling was a highly respected athlete and pro boxer. He was a smart fighter who figued out when Louis was open for the right hand and did a great job defeating a younger opponent on the rise! He was No Nazo and after Hitlers defeat the new regime dismantled Max's properties and his financial keepings were lost!
He was not a Hitler suporter but was very aware that his wife and other family members remained i nGermany when he traveled and that was a dangerous line he had to balance. From everything I've read and people who were closer to those times I never heard a bad word about him.
By all my accounts he was "a stand up guy"!! He and Louis became friends years later and Max offered some help to Joe many times but was denied.
Ray
greatest upset for me was Spinks vs Ali one!!!!! Leon out hustles an out of shape Ali and actually had him in deep trouble at the end of the fight!Comment
