People are saying louis-schmeling 2 but what about louis-schmeling 1? Louis was considered unbeatable and schmeling was supposedly a has been. Schmeling used his boxing IQ, technique and timing to overcome a foe who was faster, fresher and hit much harder. If schmeling wernt a german this win would be much more heralded.

Duran beating Leonard and Ali beating Foreman were the first that came to mind. Followed closely by Judah over Matthysse.

How did I forget Judah/Matthysse!? The single greatest display of ring generalship I've ever seen in a boxing ring. The manner in which Zab stood on the outside doing absolutely nothing was brilliant, and awe inspiring.

Duran moving up to beat atg Leonard who was a slickster is highly impressive. A lot of the wins between the fab 4 could be in the discussion. ( Duran over Leonard, Leonard making Duran quit, hearns blasting out Duran, hagler tko over hearns, and ray coming back from retirement and beating hagler)

Pac beating Oscar was big as well. In retrospect he was old/weightdrained, but oscar thought it was an easy win only for him to get his a55 kicked was epic.

I never thought about schmeling Louis 1, but that's a good point. The fact he even beat Louis that first fight, he definitely deserves more credit than he gets

Almost as good as Matthysse's win over the brilliant P4P contender Matt Dallas jr.

Yea that is big but for the rematch it was almost like the Americans vs the ****s being represented in the ring for the heavyweight champion from documentaries I've seen. I think it was bigger cause this time Schmeling represented the **** regime where as he didn't before and at a time where America was still very racially divided white Americans were rooting for Louis to beat Schmeling because of what he represented. I think if you are talking about great wins in terms of social impact this is hands down the biggest. If you are talking in terms of strictly boxing then its different.

Louis/Schmeling II, and it's not even close.
