By the same token, I couldnt see Trinidad lasting more than 5 or 6 with Marvin. Hops is the man but..when you say "Iron Chin" that applies to Marvin Hagler more than it doesn anyone in history. Marvin is the poster child for IRON CHIN.

without question Hagler is truly iron chinned!

One thing with bhop though isn't just his chin is good, it's that he rarely gets hit flush with big power shots.

I watched Hagler when I was very little, I was born in 81'. So I was a little kid watching him, not knowing really what I was watching most likely. Hopkins I grew up with, as I did Jones. I watched them all the time.

Hagler-Hopkins will be a great debate for many many years. The best two Middleweights and the two last dominant Middleweights.

Now if Sergio Martinez actually closes his career cleaning out the division.....fighting Daniel Geale, Gennady Golovkin, Dmitry Pirog, Peter Quillin, etc.....who's to say Sergio wasn't a dominant Middleweight of his era. And we'll throw his name in there.

But yes.....Hagler built up a lot of wins early against club fighters, but damn he also beat some great fighters. Hopkins early Middleweight defenses weren't all that special either.

Hagler should have gotten the W over Antuofermo too, which was his first title shot.

        Halger beat Briscoe (#4 160), Minter (#3 160), Obelmeijias (#4 160), he got Antuofermo later on even though he was robbed the first fight, Hamsho (#6 160), Sibson (#2 160), Scypion (#6 160), Duran, Roldan (#6 160), Hearns (#1 160), Mugabi (#1 160).

        Hopkins beat Mercado (#7 160), Lipsey (#7 160), Jackson (#9 160), Johnson, Echols (#5 160), Holmes (#3 160), Trinidad (#2 160), Daniels (#8 160), Joppy (#2 160), Allen (#2 160), De La Hoya (#2 160), Eastman (#1 160).

That's just including Hopkins fights at 160, he also has impressive wins at 175 too. I think in the end given Hopkins longevity, he takes Hagler on total resume.

Martinez' name shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. Best wins Chavez & soulless Pavlik. Hagler & Hopkins would have made easy work of Sergio, no doubt.

Anyways, I also wonder about Hagler's first fight with Willie Monroe. There is no tape of it but reports say that Hagler was busted up pretty damn bad, bleeding from the nose & both eyes. I know Hagler was young and took the fight on short notice, but still makes you realize he wasn't always unbeatable against boxers.

"Willie Monroe pummeled a bleeding Marvin Hagler Tuesday night to win a unanimous dcision in a 10 round bout. Monroe, a 160 pound Philadelphian, came out strong against Hagler, a 160 pounder from Brockton, Mass., with left jabs and right hooks. In the 2nd round, Hagler suffered a nose bleed from a short left hook and a straight right hand. In the 5th, Monroe came out with three consecutive uppercuts and Hagler lost his mouthpiece and his nose started to bleed profusely. Hagler tried desperately to battle back and returned with a series of body punches. Monroe picked his opponent apart in the 7th with the jabs and the nose continued to bleed. But in the 8th, Hagler returned with rights and lefts to the body. In the 10th, Monroe took command and put too much pressure on Hagler." -United Press International

But if Sergio beats those 4 at 160, he'll have a pretty good resume. Not like Hagler or Hopkins, but he will have been the dominant Middleweight of his era.

He has Pavlik (RING champ 160), Williams (#2 160), Dzinziruk, Macklin (#3 160), and Chavez (#3 160) right now. Pavlik only lost to Hopkins at 170 lbs....and Williams was a dangerous fighter for anyone. Dzinziruk was a highly ranked 154, and Macklin/Chavez were both highly ranked at 160 too. If he cleans out the division by beating those 4, which I DOUBT HE WILL, he'll be a dominant Middleweight from 2010-2015, a significant amount of time to dominate a division.

And if Danny Garcia beats Matthysse, Peterson, Timothy Bradley, Pacquiao & Marquez he'll be the most dominant 140 pound fighter in a long long time! But we know this is a fantasy world. Martinez, sadly enough, isn't interested in fighting the top guys. He wants those paydays (not that I blame him, just saying). So until then, I don't really care to hear about "what ifs".

One guy comes to take your heart...........the other comes to steal some rounds!

As a middleweight Hopkins has a nothing record, he fought no one that could raise his status in any way! Much softer than Hagler was in early. Also Hagler was in with Briscoe and Seales and Monroe, Hopkins has no one on his early record like those guys!

I don't hold hopkins high on any list, other than knowing the 3 minute duration as well as anyone. If the ref was a police officer Bernard would be going to jail by the 8th round!!
Is he slippery..yes, is he clever..yes, is he boring YES. Does he make the fight..NO! Are Tarver, J. Taylor great fighters?? NO!!

Theres NO comparisons to Hagler using Bernard Hopkins its a joke anyone who ever saw Hagler LIVE wouldn't even be making this comparison. Bernard hand picks his opponents, he knew if he hit this cloud hard right away the kid would shy out.......and he did!! Don't tell me that kid pressured Bernard he didn't have it in him. Hagler would be on Bernard like stink on sh.t and have a two handed attack going. Might take 10 rounds BUT hagler wouldn't be loosing rounds because Bernard wouldn't be able to steal them!!! Fact!
