Though I think the Ward of today beats prime Calzaghe, Joe was fantastic at finding a way to win and I wouldn't be entirely surprised if he beat Ward. I haven't seen Andre had to deal with anyone that has that kind of workrate.

        Not just work rate.

What made Joe so unique is that he combined that kind of work rate with blinding speed.

Most guys that throw lots of punches are pretty slow and just kinda grind you down.

most guys that throw lots of punches throw punches, calzaghe didn't throw punches.

            example-not punches!

joe in his prime was a beast - excellent stamina and blistering handspeed. but he had alot of others attributes that are sometimes overlooked by US fight fans. he had a good boxing IQ, he could take a decent shot and eubank once said the first thing that struck him about joe was how big and strong he was for a 12 stone guy.

sure he was down in each fight against hopkins and RJJ but joe was past his prime then and getting caught with shots that he would have evaded 3 years earlier. joe also had a very strong will and imposed it on the fight and on his opponent. when he upped the pace alot of his opponents struggled to keep up with him.

ward is an excellent fighter and sure he has faced a highler level of competition than joe did but we are not comparing resumes here we are looking at how they would have done against each other. i also think ard has benefitted from the super six immensely and since then TV and the US market has been behind him.
