Canelo's a damn good fighter I gotta admit, some won't even go as far as to acknowledge Canelo's skills due to the hate. I can also seeing Canelo taking it, but right now I'm going with Martinez.
Canelo doesn't have to hit me, I can tell by looking at the way his opponents react, the guy hits hard as hell. Williams, Pavlik, and Chavez Jr managed to knock down Martinez, I know Canelo can do it too. Canelo can knock Martinez out if he gets careless.
BTW, I know you noticed it too, Sergio's head movement against Chavez Jr. It was non-existent. This is not the first time he shows his lack of head movement, but that would dangerous against Canelo. You let Canelo tee off on you like that, he's gonna hurt you badly.
Lmao you do realize he's fighting smaller guys right? Of course they are gonna react that way when Canelo hits them. This Canelo train is gonna be a beauty to watch derail. I can't wait and I'm gonna make a lot of points too.
No, when one lands that accurately and in bunches, a very large portion of it is on positioning. Marquez, Canelo, Leo Santa Cruz for example, I see a distinct difference between those guys and say an Amir Khan or Berto. Canelo is able to shoot off from weird angles and still be poise.
His defense falls on his demeanor as a fighter, he stands directly in front of his opponents and counters with combinations, similar to Marquez. Don't see how that has anything to do with his footwork.
No. Marquez actually has lateral movement.
Canelo backs straight up and plants his feet when he wants to throw the big shots. His handspeed allows his shots to get there.
I think you're reaching with this positioning stuff. If you don't know how to position yourself to throw a proper punch you shouldn't be a professional prizefighter.
What Canelo lacks is the ability all the greats have from Ali to RJJr. to Floyd, Pac, Ward and Martinez. The ability to stick and move.
When Canelo goes up against a guy who is naturally bigger with good chin and good pop, he's screwed.

Of course he does, not dis*****g that but what is it that allows Marquez to land these accurate combinations,
don't be stubborn now. Why was Floyd picky or at times hesitant in attacking Juan? Your putting way too much emphasis on hand speed.

JMM has great sense of timing and probably the best shot placement in the game.
I emphasize handspeed for Alvarez because he's never really needed to use his footwork since he's never been in the ring with a bigger guy who has just as much power as he does.
I think you're the one being stubborn here man. There's a reason why they went with Lopez and not K9,Trout, Cotto, or Lara.

Yeah, seems I was right initially, your attributing footwork strictly to movement. Hence why you brought up Ali, Roy and Martinez. Your right about the bold, but look at his bouts against Diaz, Katsidis, Casamayor where he hardly moved, it's all in the highlight I posted, it's his positioning as well, seems you don't want to cite that. Your argument seems more based on his style.
Yeah, ginger now beats Martinez. Which is why he feeds on a steady diet of tiny men & shot big namers. That makes no sense, B-Hop is a leading partner of golden boy. It's in his best interest to promote the ginger can smasher.

You are right about him not moving laterally against Diaz or Katsidis.
You also forgot to mention he hit the canvas in both those fights.
Watch him against the bigger, stronger Pacquaio and you see a totally different Marquez that has to move laterally in order to land his shots.
All this positioning stuff is crap. Yes you need good positioning to land, but that's boxing 101. The fact remains that Canelo is beating these smaller guys up with size, power, and hand speed. Once he starts fighting guys his size who hit just as hard we better see some real footwork or he's going to get his chin tested. I personally think that when he comes up against real MW power, it fails that test.

Of course I do, still mad Lopez had to go like that, especially after he had just put himself in the spotlight at '47, so I really sympathize with him. Whether he can apply his skills against much stronger opposition (I believe he can) is another debate. Just don't agree with the whole "Have you seen his footwork? Me neither", which is ridiculous.

Never said he didn't, I said he hardly did, that stubbornness of yours is starting to leak now. My argument is strictly based on the fact that you said you haven't seen his footwork. Boxing 101 of course, but some lack those basic fundamentals and some specialize in them like Wladimir Klitchscko, his jab or as mentioned Marquez, Floyd, Canelo, positioning among other attributes. If you want to believe those combinations are due to his speed have at it hoss

Ditto to you about his positioning.
I'll reiterate what I said before since you're the one calling me stubborn yet don't seem to recognize your own. If you don't know how to position yourself to throw a proper punch ie: distance, timing, angle, then you shouldn't be a professional prizefighter.
As of now I have not seen any "good" footwork from Alvarez for reasons I've already stated. Does that help?
I've really said all that needs to be said about his basically non-existent footwork. There.. you've made me change my original statement.
